Job description

MEP Coordinator

MEP Coordinators are a partner to the Project Manager and Superintendent for the planning and daily execution of the construction project to meet stakeholder's goals. They are responsible for helping ensure the project runs effectively and smoothly by providing overall direction and control of the installation of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, fire protection and life safety systems. They must be solution oriented, flexible and adaptable team players with strong communication, task management and client service skills. MEP Coordinators are capable and willing technicians who understand all components of basic HVAC, process piping, and Electrical systems, including automation and fire alarm/suppression systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Preconstruction design review and constructability coordination.
  • Lead MEP Coordination Meetings from concept design to final inspections.
  • Lead MEP and Construction Technology team to success through goal setting and training, in addition to individual contributor tasks.
  • Troubleshoot technical installation and start up challenges in the field across multiple disciplines.
  • Utilize knowledge of advanced MEP systems to train staff and assist the precon/design team with system options analysis.
  • Use understanding of cost and schedule impacts of different MEP systems to plan buyout timing, incorporate impacts into other trade's (and design disciplines) ITBs.
  • Develop and manage MEP Field QA/QC and Punchlist programs.
  • Manage a large or multiple smaller projects concurrently.
  • Understand subcontract exhibits and can generate exhibits A and C.
  • Review design and write MEP ITBs for plan/spec jobs.
  • Use understanding of design sequencing and process to ensure XL and its design build or design assist subs are being good partners to our clients and architectural partners.
  • Fully responsible for scheduling and executing startup and Cx activities.
  • A partner to the design team (Arch) in problem solving and systems solutions.
  • Accountable for training Project Engineers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Minimum 8 to 12 years in construction with a significant focus on MEP systems.
  • Expertise in one or more of the MEP trades/disciplines.
  • Able to read Instructions to Bidders (ITBs) and contract drawings to understand systems. (pre requisite)
  • Able to input in depth understanding of MEPF systems procurement and start up information in superintendent's project schedule.
  • Prior experience in the construction industry is required; experience with science & technology, mission critical, corporate office, education, or healthcare construction projects, preferred.
  • In depth knowledge of basic construction materials and methods, and the benefits/challenges of various options. Can bridge the knowledge gap between MEPFC engineers and owners/architects.
  • Solid understanding of the technical and business aspects of construction project management.
  • Understanding of the building permit approval process. (pre requisite)
  • Solid understanding of local codes and associated effects on design and construction.
  • Mastery of required technology and software applications, including the MS Office Suite, Navisworks and Primavera, as well as Egnyte, BlueBeam, Procore, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
