Citi is seeking a highly motivated and curious engineer to join Fixed Income Trading Services as a trading tool developer embedded within the Systematic & Credit Portfolio Trading business. This role, Fixed Income Trading Services - Credit Portfolio & Systematic Trading Tooling Lead Front-End Developer, is based directly on the trading floor, offering a unique opportunity for in-person collaboration with traders, quants, and product development teams.
In this role, you will rapidly iterate on revenue-generating and risk-reducing trading and analytics tooling, gain deep understanding of the business context, and balance strategic platform builds with immediate tactical needs. Operating in a fast-paced, front-office trading environment, this position provides an outstanding opportunity to directly experience the impact of your work and help build and scale a new strategic trading desk.
The Fixed Income Trading Services Lead Front-End Developer is a senior-level role responsible for designing, developing, and delivering high-performance front-end and user interface solutions supporting Credit Portfolio Trading and Systematic Trading within Fixed Income. The role serves as a hands-on technical lead, closely aligned with business stakeholders to deliver intuitive, scalable, and high-quality trading tools while adhering to enterprise architecture, security, and risk management standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a front-end technology lead embedded with Credit Portfolio Trading and Systematic Trading desks, delivering tooling that supports real-time trading, analytics, and workflow optimization
  • Partner closely with traders, quants, and product stakeholders to translate evolving business needs into scalable, intuitive, and performant UI solutions
  • Lead system analysis and front-end development for complex, high-impact initiatives through deep understanding of trading workflows, system integrations, and market data flows
  • Design, build, and evolve real-time, data-intensive front-end trading and analytics applications with a strong focus on usability, responsiveness, and performance
  • Operate effectively in a highly iterative and rapid development environment, balancing strategic architecture initiatives with tactical desk-driven enhancements
  • Architect and implement scalable UI and micro-front end solutions, enabling reusable components and consistent cross-application experiences
  • Build front-end applications integrated with RESTful APIs and event-driven or messaging infrastructures to support high-volume, real-time updates
  • Collaborate with UX and design partners to deliver a homogenous, enterprise-aligned desktop experience, contributing to shared UI frameworks and design systems
  • Establish, document, and enforce standards for front-end coding, testing, debugging, deployment, and ongoing support
  • Serve as advisor and coach to mid-level developers and analysts; allocate and review work as required
  • Drive adoption of enterprise UI frameworks, design systems, and front-end best practices across Fixed Income Technology
  • Assess technology and delivery risks, ensuring adherence to Citi policies, regulatory expectations, and secure development practices
  • Escalate, manage, and remediate control issues with transparency while safeguarding Citi, its clients, and its assets

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • 6-10 years of experience in application development or systems analysis, including 5+ years of Front-End/UI development experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with modern front-end technologies and frameworks such as HTML5, React, and/or Angular
  • 3-5 years of experience building large-scale, distributed applications using Python or Java, including backend services supporting real-time or data-intensive workflows
  • Experience building trading, pricing, or real-time analytics applications in low-latency, high-throughput environments
  • Prior experience supporting Credit markets or other secondary trading businesses
  • Proven experience with micro-front end architectures, reusable UI frameworks, and contextualization technologies (e.g., FDC3)
  • Strong understanding of scalable UI architecture, UX best practices, and secure front-end development
  • Experience integrating front-end applications with RESTful APIs and event-driven or messaging/data platforms (e.g., Kafka, Solace, Redis, Elasticsearch, Pinot)
  • Proficiency with source control tools such as Git
  • Solid understanding of SDLC concepts and experience operating in Agile and Waterfall delivery models
  • Demonstrated leadership, ownership mindset, and ability to operate autonomously in a desk-embedded, fast-paced trading environment
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills across both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to rapidly learn the business context, reprioritize, and deliver both strategic builds and tactical solutions under tight timelines

Nice to Have:
  • Experience supporting Credit, Fixed Income, or Derivatives trading desks, particularly Portfolio or Systematic Trading
  • Direct experience working side-by-side with traders and quants in highly iterative, front-office development models
  • Rapid prototyping and wireframing experience (e.g., Figma)
  • Python full-stack experience, including rapid UI frameworks (e.g., Streamlit)
  • Experience driving standardization and adoption of shared UI frameworks and design systems across multiple teams
  • Familiarity with leveraging AI coding assistants or agent-based tooling to accelerate front-end development

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
