Lead Software Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and driven Lead Software Engineer to lead the modernization of a customer-facing digital product platform. This role requires deep expertise in modern software development practices, a passion for emerging technologies, and the ability to provide strong technical leadership and mentorship.
You will play a critical role in shaping the platform's technical direction and ensuring it is scalable, resilient, secure, and maintainable for long-term growth. This is a hands-on leadership position that combines architecture, engineering execution, technical decision-making, and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Engineering

• Architect and implement a modern digital product platform using technologies such as:
  • TypeScript
  • Node.js
  • Next.js
  • React
  • React Native
  • Flutter
  • GraphQL
• Establish and champion engineering practices that promote modularity, scalability, resiliency, security, and maintainability.
• Define and uphold coding standards, architectural patterns, testing strategies, and quality metrics.
• Lead technical design discussions, design reviews, and code reviews.
• Provide hands-on technical guidance across web, mobile, API, and platform engineering initiatives.
• Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines and contribute to DevSecOps practices.
• Help define platform hosting, deployment, and runtime strategies that support reliability and performance at scale.

Platform Modernization

• Lead the modernization of an existing digital product platform supporting multiple customer and partner use cases.
• Reduce technical debt through thoughtful architecture, pragmatic trade-offs, and disciplined execution.
• Build stable, reusable technical foundations that accelerate product development and future platform expansion.
• Improve performance, reliability, security, scalability, and maintainability across web and mobile applications.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions based on technical fit, business value, and long-term sustainability.

Technical Ownership

• Own the technical vision and architecture of the platform.
• Serve as a key decision-maker for technology selections, architectural trade-offs, and implementation approaches.
• Take accountability for platform quality, performance, security, and long-term sustainability.
• Identify and proactively address technical risks, scalability challenges, and architectural gaps.
• Ensure technical decisions align with customer needs, business objectives, and organizational priorities.

Engineering Leadership & Collaboration

• Partner closely with Product Managers, Designers, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering peers, mobile and web teams, platform services, security, infrastructure, and operations.
• Mentor and coach engineers while fostering a culture of learning, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Promote architectural consistency and technical alignment across teams.
• Share knowledge through clear documentation, technical discussions, design reviews, and constructive feedback.

Qualifications
Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience, including significant experience in senior, staff, principal, or lead-level roles.
• Proven success designing and delivering large-scale, high-impact platforms in production environments.
• Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership across architecture, design, implementation, and operational support.
• Experience building and operating customer-facing web and mobile applications.
• Experience developing business-to-business APIs, portals, integrations, or transaction-driven systems.
• Experience partnering with Product, Design, Engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver meaningful outcomes.

Technical Skills
Expert-level proficiency in modern application development, including:

• TypeScript, Node.js, and Next.js
• React, React Native, and Flutter
• Swift and Kotlin
• GraphQL and REST-based API design and integration
• PostgreSQL and MongoDB
• Database design, performance optimization, and data access patterns
• CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices
• iOS and Android application delivery
• Mobile release and application store lifecycle management
• Event-driven and asynchronous architectures
• Messaging and queue-based systems
• Third-party platform and API integrations
• Identity and single sign-on integrations
• Payment and digital commerce integrations

Preferred Experience

• Experience with real-time or near-real-time systems.
• Experience building communication, collaboration, or media-enabled applications.
• Experience supporting platforms with complex integrations and high transaction volumes.
• Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and distributed systems.
• Advanced degree in a related field.
