Job Purpose:
Reporting to Market Transportation Manager. The Lead Driver oversees the staff of drivers and provides daily reports to his/her direct report. As a lead driver, you will train new staff, schedule the current driving team (as directed by direct report), and prepare reports for upper management as assigned. You are also responsible for driving and delivering loads as needed. Additional duties will include overseeing the equipment utilization and maintenance program set forth by the Fresh-One Transportation Dept. It is expected that in this role you will adhere to all company policies, procedures, and DOT regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA and company requirements and regulations.
Provides instructions to drivers on proper work methodologies.
Monitors employee productivity and quality of work.
Provide instructions to drivers on routing and proper handling of materials.
Assist Safety Manager with driver safety meetings.
Assist with dispatching drivers on a variable schedule as needed.
Write work instructions that are clear for the drivers to follow.
Ensures employees are provided with appropriate tools to complete assignments.
Counsels and uses progressive corrective action processes when disciplining employees.
Remains current with changes and operating procedures within assigned areas.
Provides clear concise written and verbal communication to all personnel.
Provide hours of service training/counseling and FMCSR training to all associates.
Perform driver safety rides (associate and procedure observation).
Other projects or duties as assigned.
Core Skills/Background:
High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience. Associates Degree preferred.
Experience directly supervising and managing administrative staff and drivers in the field.
Class A CDL Required
Comfortable with technology and MS Office products, and willing to learn new applications.
Flexibility to work in fast-paced environment, variable working hours both in office & field.
