GENERAL STATEMENT
OF JOB:
The Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) provides comprehensive mental health services, clinical risk assessments, and social-emotional interventions to support students' academic performance and overall well-being. Operating within a multidisciplinary team, this position delivers individual and group counseling, manages crisis situations, and connects families with school and community resources. The LCSW collaborates with educators, administrators, and external agencies to address behavioral, emotional, and social barriers to learning, ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive educational environment.

EXPERIENCE ANDย

Required:
ย ย ย ย Education: Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
ย ย ย ย Licensure: Active state license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
ย ย ย ย Certification: State Certification as a School Social Workerย 
ย ย ย ย Experience: Minimum of 2 years providing clinical social work, crisis intervention, or mental health therapy, preferably in a school or youth-focused setting.
Preferred:
ย ย ย ย Specialized Training: Certification or documented training in Trauma-Informed Care, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, or crisis de-escalation (e.g., CPI/Safety-Care).

ย ย ย ย Clinical Assessment & Crisis Intervention: Expertise in risk assessments (suicide/self-harm, threat assessment), diagnostic screening, and implementing immediate, safety-focused interventions.
ย ย ย ย Direct Mental Health Delivery: Skilled in facilitating evidence-based individual and small-group counseling targeting anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation, and social skills.
ย ย ย ย Case Management & Agency Liaison: Proficient in navigating community mental health networks, social service systems, and child welfare agencies to coordinate wraparound care for vulnerable families.
ย ย ย ย Special Education & Compliance: Strong working knowledge of IEP/504 processes, writing functional social-developmental histories, and developing compliant behavioral/mental health goals.
ย ย ย ย Cultural Competency & Advocacy: Demonstrated ability to support diverse student populations, advocate for equity, and apply culturally responsive practices in clinical work.

ย ย ย ย Clinical & Counseling Services: Provide evidence-based individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and social-emotional skill-building for students.
ย ย ย ย Assessments & IEP Compliance: Conduct social-developmental evaluations, participate in IEP/504 meetings, and write measurable social-emotional goals and progress reports.
ย ย ย ย Crisis & Risk Management: Lead clinical risk assessments (suicide, self-harm, threat assessment), implement safety plans, and handle emergency mental health crises.
ย ย ย ย Consultation & Collaboration: Advise teachers, staff, and administration on trauma-informed practices, behavior management, and student mental health strategies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs)
ย ย ย ย Knowledge: Expert knowledge of clinical social work principles, DSM-5 diagnostics, trauma-informed care, child development, and special education law (IDEA/Section 504).
ย ย ย ย Skills: Proficient in clinical risk assessment, therapeutic intervention, crisis de-escalation, conflict resolution, and electronic case management software.
ย ย ย ย Abilities: Ability to maintain strict clinical confidentiality, manage acute crises calmly under pressure, build trust with diverse families, and advocate effectively for vulnerable students.

SALARY: $60,307 - $85,536 approximate ( BOCES Faculty Association contract)
