Job description

Meta is seeking a Lead Building Engineer to join our Data Center Critical Facility Operations team. Our data centers are the backbone of the infrastructure that powers Meta's global platforms, and this role is central to keeping those systems running at peak reliability. As a Lead Building Engineer, you will provide senior-level technical leadership across mechanical, electrical, and controls systems within a critical facility environment, driving operational excellence, mentoring other engineers, and ensuring continuous uptime across mission-critical infrastructure.
Lead Building Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the senior technical resource for data center facility operations, providing guidance and oversight on complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and controls systems maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Lead the development, review, and continuous improvement of standard operating procedures, emergency operating procedures, and preventive maintenance programs for critical facility systems
  • Oversee and coordinate planned and unplanned maintenance activities, ensuring all work is executed safely and in compliance with site processes, change management protocols, and uptime requirements
  • Mentor other engineers and technicians on technical best practices, equipment operation, and safety standards within the critical facility environment
  • Utilize building management systems and monitoring platforms to analyze system performance, identify anomalies, and drive proactive resolution of potential faults before they impact operations
  • Lead root cause analysis investigations following equipment failures or operational incidents, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to plan and execute capital projects, equipment upgrades, and system commissioning activities
  • Manage work order workflows in the enterprise asset management system, ensuring accurate documentation of maintenance activities, parts usage, and equipment history
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to the facility operations and maintenance program, including energy efficiency initiatives and infrastructure reliability enhancements
  • Respond to and lead the resolution of critical facility emergencies, coordinating resources and communications across operations, engineering, and management teams

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience in critical facility operations, data center engineering, or a related technical field encompassing mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or controls systems
  • Experience leading or coordinating maintenance activities and technical teams within a mission-critical or 24x7 operational environment
  • Experience troubleshooting and operating complex building systems including power distribution, cooling infrastructure, and building management or monitoring systems
  • Experience developing or improving standard operating procedures, preventive maintenance programs, or change management processes in a critical environment
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions following equipment failures or operational incidents

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years experience in a data center or other Critical Environment (pharma, clean room, medical, power production, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Associates Degree, Trade Certification or state licensure in Electrical or Mechanical (HVAC)
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and life safety monitoring and control systems typically used in critical environments
  • Experience interpreting blueprints/CAD drawings
