Job description

ABOUT THE TEAM

Anduril's Maritime Division has assembled a diverse team of experts in software, robotics, artificial intelligence, sensor fusion, and data analysis to create software and hardware solutions that radically evolve the capabilities of our customers. We are fielding the next generation of autonomous systems to tackle the extremely challenging industry demands of maritime operations. Anduril has brought to market a unique, ultra-long-range, full-ocean-depth underwater vessel platform and a completely refreshed maritime vehicle and flexible manufacturing architecture that scales from "small" to "extra-large" vehicle sizes. Today, Anduril is executing on billion-dollar contracts while simultaneously performing Robot-as-a-Service (RaaS) AUV operations.
We are continuing to expand our product portfolio, now moving into the surface maritime domain. Products like Dive-XL, Dive-LD, Copperhead, Seabed Sentry, and surface products in the pipeline will create a system-of-systems that enable a multitude of autonomous missions across all maritime domains. If you are passionate about solving problems that have real impact and working on systems that directly contribute to achieving national strategic priorities, we want you to join Anduril's Maritime Division and help us build the future of defense capability.

The next Mechanical Engineer on our Undersea Reconnaissance & Strike team will join a small, high-output mechanical engineering group supporting multiple vehicle variants through rapid prototyping and into rate production.
WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Support the full product lifecycle from early prototype through rate production - you'll be involved from system requirements and initial design iterations through manufacturing and delivery, not just one phase
  • Drive DFM into every decision - developing low-cost, producible designs that can scale from prototype quantities to rate production
  • Navigate a dynamic solutions trade space that incorporates external constraints, evolving requirements, timeline considerations, and quality in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Contribute as a member of a multi-disciplinary integrated product team, providing a new perspective to teammates of various backgrounds and experiences
  • Critically assess mechanical solutions for their value to the end user, cost and ease to manufacture, time to deliver, reliability, reusability across various product lines, and iterability
  • Make practical engineering trade-offs - we value judgment and momentum over analysis paralysis
  • Interact with end-users to deeply understand their needs and incorporate feedback into your technical solutions
  • Support integration and test activities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, a relevant field, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of professional experience working as a Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineer
  • Demonstrated experience taking a design from concept through multiple iterations into a manufactured product - not just analysis, but actually building and shipping hardware
  • Capacity to work holistically on complex electromechanical systems across design, implementation, operation and sustainment
  • Capacity learn and grow individually, building team cohesion and capacity
  • Comfort working through ambiguity - priorities shift, vehicle variants evolve, and you'll need to find your own rhythm in a fast-moving environment
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in subsea, maritime, or autonomous underwater vehicle development
  • Experience in aviation, robotics, or consumer products hardware - especially if you can translate those skills to undersea systems
  • Experience with design, manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal, injection molding, composites, and/or additive manufacturing
  • Exposure to design-for-manufacturing principles and rate production environments
