Summary:
The Marketing Manager is a technically skilled, data-driven individual contributor responsible for planning, executing, and optimizing multichannel marketing campaigns that support ACS programs, products, member engagement, and strategic initiatives. This role owns end-to-end email and newsletter marketing, from design and layout in Stripo and Marketo through segmentation, testing, and performance analysis, while also contributing meaningfully to performance marketing, paid digital channels, and broader integrated campaign strategy.
The Marketing Manager will apply strong analytical capabilities and AI fluency to surface actionable insights, improve campaign effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement across audiences including members, prospective members, and myriad internal and external partners. The Marketing Manager will contribute to integrated, multichannel marketing strategies that span email, paid digital, organic social, content, SEO/SEM, AEO/GEO, and event promotion.
This exempt position reports to the Senior Manager, Marketing and Analytics in the Division of Integrated Communications. It is based in our Chicago office and is a hybrid role: 3 days per week in the office / 2 days per week remote.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $84,000-$90,000 (commensurate with related experience).
Major Responsibilities:
Email and Newsletter Design and Execution
  • Design, build, test, and deploy email campaigns and newsletters for multiple ACS audiences using Stripo for template design and Marketo for campaign execution and automation.
  • Draft, edit, and optimize marketing copy for email campaigns.
  • Manage multi-audience newsletter production end-to-end: content layout, responsive design, segmentation, personalization, quality assurance, scheduling, and deployment.
  • Execute campaign workflows including behavioral triggers, lifecycle communications, and automated nurture sequences.
  • Ensure all email and newsletter content adheres to ACS brand standards, accessibility best practices, and deliverability requirements.

Performance Marketing
  • In partnership with the social media team, plan and execute paid digital campaigns across search (Google Ads), social (LinkedIn, Meta), and display channels to drive awareness, acquisition, and engagement for ACS programs and initiatives.
  • Monitor campaign spend, return on ad spend, click-through rates, and conversion metrics; make real-time optimizations to improve efficiency and results.
  • Conduct A/B and multivariate testing on subject lines, ad creative, and calls to action to continuously improve performance.
  • Work with web and creative teams to develop and optimize landing pages to support campaign conversion goals.
  • Seek opportunities to optimize owned channels to drive measurable results.

Data Analysis and Insights
  • Analyze campaign performance data across channels to identify trends, surface insights, and translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to track KPIs, monitor audience engagement, and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Use Customer Relationship Management (CRM)/Association Management Software (AMS) data to understand audience behavior, segment lists, and identify opportunities to improve targeting and personalization.
  • Present performance summaries and data-driven recommendations to internal stakeholders in a clear, accessible format.

Membership Marketing
  • Collaborate with Membership Marketing Specialists to execute recruitment and retention campaigns across Fellow, Associate Fellow, Resident, Medical Student, and Affiliate member categories.
  • Support member lifecycle communications, including onboarding, engagement, and renewal campaigns, leveraging CRM/AMS segmentation.
  • Contribute to member value communications, ensuring messaging is compelling and audience appropriate.

Quality Program and Business Development Support
  • Partner with Business Development and Quality Program teams to support hospital recruitment, retention, and engagement campaigns.
  • Use Marketo, CRM/AMS data, and campaign performance insights to identify, nurture, and qualify prospective hospital leads.
  • Develop and optimize marketing campaigns that promote ACS Quality Programs, verification/accreditation pathways, and related strategic initiatives.

Marketing Automation and CRM/AMS
  • Serve as a technical owner of Marketo, including list management, template governance, automation logic, and platform hygiene.
  • Leverage CRM/AMS data to qualify audiences, build segments, and optimize contact strategies across the member and prospect lifecycle.
  • Implement and maintain integration between marketing automation and CRM/AMS systems to ensure data consistency and campaign accuracy.

AI-Enabled Marketing
  • Apply AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, and emerging marketing AI platforms) to accelerate content creation, audience segmentation, personalization, and campaign ideation.
  • Stay current on AI applications in marketing and proactively identify opportunities to integrate new tools and techniques into ACS workflows.
  • Use AI-assisted analytics to surface patterns and insights that inform campaign strategy and creative decisions.

Process Improvement and Best Practices
  • Identify and implement improvements to campaign execution processes, templates, automation workflows, and QA procedures.
  • Document technical procedures, naming conventions, and platform configurations to support team efficiency and continuity.
  • Support survey development and execution as related to marketing initiatives; analyze results to inform future campaigns.

Required Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in marketing, communications, business, or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • At least 4-7 years of professional experience on a high-volume, multichannel marketing team.
  • Proficiency with Marketo required and Adobe Marketo Engage Certification preferrable; knowledge of PropFuel preferable; proficiency with Stripo or equivalent email design tool required.
  • Demonstrated experience in performance marketing and paid digital advertising (Google Ads, LinkedIn, Meta or similar platforms).
  • Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting and presenting campaign performance data; Power BI experience preferred.
  • Experience with CRM/AMS systems and using data to drive segmentation and targeting decisions.
  • Fluency with AI tools for marketing applications (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, or similar).
  • Experience with personalization, behavioral segmentation, and lifecycle marketing.
  • Strong attention to detail, QA discipline, and ability to manage multiple campaigns and deadlines independently.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Power BI and analytics tools preferred.
  • Acts with urgency, proactivity and accountability.
