Job description

We are looking for an experienced Controls and Instrumentation Engineer with specialized expertise in Emerson Ovation Distributed Control System (DCS). In this role, you will lead the design, implementation, and modernization of control systems across electric utility and power generation clients.


This is a HYBRID role with up to 30% travel within the state of California.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Ovation DCS Engineering & Programming: Design, configure, and maintain Emerson Ovation databases, control sheets and high performance HMI graphics
  • System Upgrades & Lifecycle Management: Lead hardware and software migrations, OCR controller upgrades, and third-party protocol integrations
  • Utility & Power Process Integration: Implement and optimize control loops for generation assets
  • Testing & Commissioning: Develop test procedures and lead Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance: Ensure control system architectures adhere to utility cybersecurity standards, including NERC CIP guidelines and internal utility network security policies


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Certified Emerson Ovation required
  • Hybrid role with up to 30% statewide travel within California based on client and project needs


Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 3+ years of direct, hands-on engineering and configuration experience with Emerson Ovation DCS
  • 5+ years in the electric utility or power generation industry
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical single line drawings, control logic drawings, wiring schematics
  • Resides within California
  • High attention to detail with an ability to be self-managing and solve challenging problems independently
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to develop positive relationships with clients
