Position Description
We are seeking experienced Pipe Layers who will be responsible for the correct installation of underground utilities. Applicants must be dependable, honest, hardworking, have an excellent work ethic and a desire to learn/grow.
Pipe Layer responsibilities include:
  • Attendance during regularly scheduled workdays
  • Properly connect and install all utility pipes, per manufacturer specs
  • Properly align and position pipes
  • Check slopes to meet job specifications, using levels or lasers
  • Proper bedding, compaction and backfill material of installed utilities
  • Measure pipes to required lengths
  • Dig/grade trenches to required depths
  • Install and repair sanitary pipe, storm drain, structures and pipe systems
  • Assist with lay out associated with installing pipe and structures
  • Proper rigging of chains, cables, and slings per OSHA standards
  • Proper non-verbal communication
  • Trench safety per OSHA standards
  • OSHA required confined space training
  • Ability to complete computer-based training (CBT) modules as part of ongoing job requirements
  • Proficient at Skilled Laborer duties
  • Other duties as required and directed.

Position Requirements
  • Dependable daily transportation to job sites within a 50-mile radius of Williamsburg, VA
  • Knowledge of basic safety requirements, including trench safety
  • Excellent communication skills - ability to communicate verbally and non-verbally
  • Excellent coordination skills and critical thinking skills
  • Must have task organizational skills
  • Understanding material requirements
  • Complete the required training to confidently check and confirm grades
  • The knowledge to understand correct safety protocol for utility installation
  • Ability to recognize potential safety hazards associated with utilities
  • Knowledge of basic erosion control methods
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to determine slope of pipe runs
  • Completed training for confined spaces
  • Knowledge in basic hand and power tool use
  • Must practice situational awareness skills
  • Ability to take direction from the crew leader
  • Able to work with others
  • Must be dependable
  • Regularly required to stand, sit, and walk
  • Regularly required to use arms, hands and fingers, to reach, handle and/or feel
  • Regularly required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to sit or stand in a stationary position for up to 8 hours per day, including while using a computer or performing administrative or training-related tasks
  • Must be physically flexible
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include peripheral vision and depth perception
  • Regularly required to work under stressful conditions, all types of outdoor weather, and varying terrain
  • Applicant must pass a pre-employment drug screen and have a clean driving record.
