Job description

Education/Certification Preferred:

  • High school graduate or equivalent

Special Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Good communicating and reasoning skills.
  • Must possess a Texas operator's or class C driver's license and be insurable by the District.

Experience Preferred:

  • One year experience in commercial laundry or cleaning facility

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrate a willingness to work overtime if necessary to ensure job requirements are satisfied and in the event an emergency situation arises.
  • Ability to communicate with Personnel at all levels in the school district.
  • Ability and willingness to work any shift.

Function

Under the direct supervision of the Laundry Lead Custodian and the general supervision of the Custodial Foreman. Maintain and operate the laundry facility and delivery program in a clean, orderly, systematic and efficient manner.

Reports To:

Laundry Lead Custodian

Responsibilities:

  • Open and close laundry facility maintaining secure premises at all times.
  • Monitor all washers and dryers for signs of mechanical wear and breakdown, including pulleys, belts, bearings and steam leaks.
  • Monitor and maintain all chemicals for use by washers, including proper proportioning of detergents, bleaches, stain removers and softeners.
  • Wash, dry, bundle and stack towels and uniforms for all athletic and physical education classes as required.           
  • Monitor and inspect towels and uniforms for quality control of laundry performance.
  • Ensure adequate quantities of clean towels are available for delivery to schools on scheduled dates.
  • Follow the schedule for pick-up and delivery of towels and uniforms in a timely manner.
  • Load and unload washers and dryers and prepare for delivery as required.
  • Make pickups and deliveries to schools for athletic and the physical education program.
  • Maintain and monitor inventory of towels to ensure quantities are available as needed.
  • Must be able to operate school vehicles in the performance of duties.
  • Report all equipment problems and discrepancies to supervisor.
  • Perform custodial duties as outlined in work schedule.
  • Perform custodial project work.
  • Perform other job related duties as required for the daily operation of the laundry room and department.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Lifting (heavy, 45 lbs. or over), carrying (heavy, 45 lbs, or over), stooping , walking, climbing (stairs, ladders, scaffold, ramps), balancing, crouching, kneeling, pulling, crawling, working in confined areas, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, visual acuity, driving (car, truck, bus).
  • Outside temperature extremes, noises, vibrating, slippery surfaces, sunlight, works around moving objects, kneeling, chemical exposure (asbestos, fumes, vapors, gasses, dusts, smoke, etc.) Inside humidity extremes, low or intense illumination, microwaves, uneven surfaces, work with hands in water, works around machinery with moving parts, work alone, prolong or irregular hours, biological exposure (insects, mold, fungi, bacteria, animals, plants, etc.)
