What is a laundress?

As a laundress, you perform laundry services and use your skills to wash, dry, and care for clothes and linens. Your job duties can vary depending on your employer but usually include cleaning and steaming laundry, ironing and folding clothes, and organizing items. If you work in a hotel, you may oversee bulk cleaning operations, while a household position may involve other housekeeper tasks. To thrive as a Laundress, you need expertise in garment care, stain removal, fabric handling, and a strong understanding of laundry processes, often gained through experience or vocational training. Familiarity with commercial laundry equipment, detergents, and pressing or finishing tools is typically required. Attention to detail, time management, and reliability are crucial soft skills for maintaining high standards and meeting deadlines. These skills and qualities are important to ensure garments are well-cared for, clients are satisfied, and laundry operations run efficiently.

Both roles require knowledge of fabric care, but Dry Cleaners usually need more technical certifications.
