JOB DESCRIPTION FOR LAUNDRESS

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school education preferred
  2. Must be able to read, write, and follow directions
  3. Some laundry experience preferred
  4. Willing to learn on-the-job method 
  5. Knowledge of commercial laundry processes, equipment, and procedures for both washing and ironing materials

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for washing laundry in a manner that will not damage either machine or garments, washing contaminated linens separately if necessary, avoiding overloading machines. 
  2. Reports malfunctions of equipment
  3. Willingness to perform routine tasks on a continuous basis.
  4. Ability to keep up with flow of work.
  5. Works under close supervision of the supervisor.
  6. Handles, stores, processes and transports all linens so as to prevent the spread of infection

WORK PERFORMED:

  1. Washes garments and linens as necessary in an electrically powered washing machine. Places clothes in drum of washer and adjusts valves to admit water of proper temperature.
  2. Adds soap or other solutions at appropriate times. Starts drum rolling and stops machine after articles have been washed and rinsed.
  3. Transfers washed clothes from washer to dryer and to baskets for distribution.
  4. Hangs finished garments on hangers or folds and stacks garments.
  5. Distributes clothes to residents’ rooms.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned by the Laundry Supervisor.
  7. Wears gloves at all times when handling dirty linen. Washes hands after contact with any soiled linen.

The Evening Laundry Worker is responsible for ensuring that all linens, personal clothing, and facility laundry are properly collected, cleaned, dried, folded, and distributed in a timely and sanitary manner. This role supports infection control standards and helps maintain a clean, comfortable environment for residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect soiled linens and clothing from designated areas following proper infection control procedures
  • Sort laundry by type, color, and washing requirements
  • Operate commercial washers and dryers safely and efficiently
  • Fold, organize, and distribute clean laundry to appropriate resident rooms and departments
  • Label and track residents’ personal clothing to prevent loss
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laundry area
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control policies in compliance with Texas SNF regulations
  • Report equipment malfunctions or supply shortages to supervisor
  • Assist with other housekeeping duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous laundry or housekeeping experience in a healthcare setting is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift up to 30–50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to push/pull laundry carts
