What is a Latam software developer?

A Latam Software Developer is a software engineer or programmer based in Latin America (LATAM) who designs, develops, tests, and maintains software applications. These professionals often work for local or international companies, either on-site or remotely, and are known for their strong technical skills and cost-effective solutions. Many companies hire Latam Software Developers due to overlapping time zones with North America, cultural compatibility, and a growing pool of tech talent in the region.

How does being a Latam software developer influence collaboration with international teams?

As a Latam Software Developer, you’ll often work closely with colleagues and stakeholders from North America, Europe, and other regions. This requires strong communication skills, flexibility with time zones, and adaptability to different cultural work styles. Many teams use English as the primary language for meetings and documentation, so proficiency is important. Successful collaboration also involves being proactive about clarifying requirements and sharing progress to ensure alignment across distributed teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Latam software developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Latam Software Developer, you need strong programming skills in languages like Java, Python, or JavaScript, along with a relevant computer science degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with development frameworks, version control systems like Git, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and cultural adaptability help you excel in diverse, often remote, cross-border teams. Job description

AI ENGINEER (LATAM, RSA)

Blacksmith Agency | Full-Time Contract | Remote

ABOUT BLACKSMITH AGENCY

Blacksmith Agency (BSA) is a fully remote WordPress design and development agency of ~40 people headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. We build high-performance websites for growth-focused companies across the US. We're not a typical agency. We run a sales engine, a production system and a growing AI automation layer that we're building into every part of how we work.

This role is a direct investment in that automation layer.

THE ROLE

We're hiring an AI Engineer to own and ship our internal automation roadmap. This is a builder role, not a research role. You will not be training models. You will be building production systems on top of them.

You'll work directly with our engineering and delivery leadership to take a well-documented roadmap of automation workflows (AI-assisted WordPress development, content generation, agentic pipelines) and turn them into shipped, working systems.

This role is for someone who has already built things with LLMs and can show it.

WHAT YOU'LL BUILD
  • Agentic workflows using LangChain, LangGraph or equivalent frameworks
  • Integrations with Anthropic and OpenAI APIs including tool use and function calling
  • Internal tools that reduce manual hours across our design and development production process
  • Automation pipelines that connect WordPress, Figma, Google Workspace and our internal CMS/component library
  • MCP (Model Context Protocol) server integrations as part of our broader AI stack
WHAT WE NEED Required:
  • 2+ years building production software with Python or Node.js
  • Hands‑on experience with LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen or similar agent frameworks
  • Proven API integration work with OpenAI or Anthropic (function calling, tool use, streaming)
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, webhooks and basic cloud deployment
  • Solid version control habits
  • English proficiency sufficient for async written communication with a US‑based team
Strong bonus:
  • WordPress or PHP experience
  • Familiarity with Figma APIs or design tooling
  • Google Apps Script or Workspace automation experience
  • Background in web production, digital agencies or similar environments
  • Experience with n8n, Make or similar workflow automation platforms
WHAT WE DON'T NEED
  • A degree from a specific school
  • Experience at a well‑known tech company
  • A polished resume full of buzzwords

We care about what you've built and whether it works.

HOW WE WORK
  • Fully remote, async‑first
  • Phoenix, AZ timezone preferred but not required (MST, UTC‑7) or East Coast Hours
  • Contract engagement to start, with conversion path based on performance
  • Direct access to leadership, no bureaucracy, fast feedback loops
