POSITION SUMMARY
Position: CNC Laser Machinist
Reports to: Operations Manager
Location: Easley, SC
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The CNC Laser Programmer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining CNC laser cutting programs to support efficient manufacturing operations. This role works closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure accurate part processing, material utilization, and machine performance. The CNC Laser Programmer analyzes engineering drawings, models, and production requirements to create cost-effective cutting strategies while maintaining quality and safety standards.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Create, modify, and optimize CNC laser programs for sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing operations.
  • Generate nesting layouts to maximize material utilization and minimize scrap.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and customer specifications to develop accurate cutting programs.
  • Select appropriate cutting parameters, tooling, and machine settings based on material type, thickness, and production requirements.
  • Support laser operators by troubleshooting programming, machine, and production issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to improve part manufacturability and production efficiency.
  • Validate first-run programs and make adjustments to improve quality, throughput, and machine performance.
  • Maintain program libraries, revision controls, and documentation to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Analyze production data and recommend process improvements to reduce cycle times and manufacturing costs.
  • Assist with implementation of new products, equipment, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and company operating procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Maintain accurate records of programming changes, machine settings, and production improvements.
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or technical certification in Manufacturing Technology, CNC Programming, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of CNC programming experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience programming CNC laser cutting equipment such as Trumpf, Bystronic, Amada, Mazak, Mitsubishi, or similar systems preferred.
  • Proficiency with nesting and programming software such as CypNest, Hypcut, BesCutter Laser, or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD amp;T, and technical specifications.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software and 3D modeling systems.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, material properties, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Regularly works in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts, forklifts, cranes, and industrial equipment. Noise levels may be moderate to high. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when in production areas.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to frequently walk throughout manufacturing areas, stand for extended periods, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Requires the ability to use computers, operate manufacturing equipment interfaces, and inspect parts and materials. Must possess visual acuity sufficient to review detailed drawings, specifications, and quality measurements.
