How much do language revitalization jobs pay per year?
What is a language revitalization job?
A Language Revitalization job focuses on efforts to preserve, strengthen, and promote the use of endangered or declining languages. This work can include developing educational materials, teaching language classes, creating language policies, working with communities, and documenting linguistic resources. Professionals in this field often collaborate with Indigenous groups, researchers, and policymakers to support language learning and intergenerational transmission. The goal is to ensure that a language continues to be spoken and passed down to future generations.
What are some common challenges faced in language revitalization roles?
Professionals in Language Revitalization often encounter challenges such as limited access to fluent speakers, scarcity of teaching materials, and balancing the needs of diverse community members. Collaboration with elders and community stakeholders can require patience and adaptability, as relationship-building is central to the work. Additionally, securing funding and navigating bureaucratic processes are frequent hurdles. However, these challenges also offer opportunities to create innovative learning resources and foster deep community connections, making the role both impactful and rewarding.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in language revitalization?
To thrive in Language Revitalization, you typically need a background in linguistics, education, or anthropology, with experience in community engagement and language documentation. Familiarity with audio recording equipment, language database management tools, and proficiency in relevant software (such as ELAN or FLEx) are often necessary. Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to collaborate with local communities are crucial for success. These competencies are vital to effectively preserving, teaching, and promoting endangered languages, ensuring meaningful community participation and sustainable outcomes.

Job description
At Hopkins Public Schools, we believe that our strength lies in the diversity of our students, staff, and community. We are a proudly inclusive E-12 district serving approximately 7,200 students across the City of Hopkins and surrounding communities. Our district represents a rich mosaic of cultures, backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences; we value and celebrate that diversity in everything we do. As an academically rigorous and human-centered district, we are committed to fostering a welcoming environment where every student and staff member feels seen, heard, and valued. There is no "typical" Hopkins student, and we embrace this truth as a catalyst for innovation, growth, and equity in learning.
We seek educators and staff who are equity-minded, culturally responsive, and deeply committed to creating inclusive spaces where all learners can thrive.
We welcome candidates who are passionate about dismantling systemic barriers, advancing justice, and preparing students to become bold, collaborative, and compassionate global citizens. When you join Hopkins Public Schools, you are not just joining a district, you are becoming part of a community that honors difference, nurtures potential, and inspires remarkable achievement in every learner, from birth through graduation.
You are welcome at Hopkins. You belong at Hopkins.
This is a 2 year grant-funded position.Â
