Position Summary

The Maintenance Assistant performs a variety of routine maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping duties to ensure the facility remains safe, attractive, and compliant with all applicable regulations. This position supports the Maintenance Director in maintaining the building, equipment, and grounds while providing excellent service to residents and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance on the building, equipment, and facility systems.

  • Complete work orders promptly and prioritize maintenance requests appropriately.

  • Conduct scheduled inspections and maintenance of the building, grounds, and equipment.

  • Assist with basic repairs, including painting, minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance tasks.

  • Replace light bulbs, repair fixtures, and maintain facility appearance.

  • Maintain the grounds by mowing, trimming, edging, removing debris, and performing seasonal cleanup.

  • Wash exterior windows and screens as needed.

  • Test the emergency generator in accordance with federal and state regulations.

  • Inspect fire extinguishers every 30 days and assist with fire safety programs and drills.

  • Help ensure the facility remains compliant with federal, state, and local building and safety regulations.

  • Coordinate maintenance activities with other departments to minimize disruption to resident care.

  • Assist with scheduling and monitoring outside contractors for repairs and maintenance projects.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, preventive maintenance schedules, and required documentation.

  • Respond to facility maintenance emergencies as needed.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; related maintenance experience preferred.

  • Experience performing general building maintenance, repairs, or groundskeeping.

  • Ability to safely operate maintenance and landscaping equipment, including lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, edgers, pressure washers, and similar tools.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Professional, dependable, and able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other departments.

  • Customer service mindset and commitment to providing a safe, welcoming environment.
