Job Description

We are seeking experienced Senior Engineers - Water Resources/Drainage to join our team in Rockville, MD/the DMV area. This position will serve as a technical lead and subject-matter expert for hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, and drainage design on complex transportation and infrastructure projects. The location will be determined based on site/client office location per opportunity.

The successful candidate will manage civil engineering projects from planning through delivery, ensuring program goals are met and client expectations exceeded. This role involves leading technical teams, coordinating schedules and budgets, monitoring performance, managing risks, and fostering personnel development, applying best practices to achieve efficient, high-quality, integrated outcome.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a technical and organizational leader in water resources and civil infrastructure design, guiding and managing project teams.
  • Oversee and mentor junior civil engineering staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and positive work environment.
  • Lead project execution with a proactive, forward-thinking approach, ensuring teams meet objectives on schedule and within budget.
  • Supervise all aspects of project delivery, including project setup, drafting, design, quality control, and coordination.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, landscape architects, environmental scientists, and other stakeholders to ensure integrated project solutions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and consultants.
  • Design and manage permitting for civil construction projects, including stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and drainage systems.
  • Review and monitor project reports to ensure schedules, budgets, and performance goals are achieved.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution (Master's or Ph.D. preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maryland, DC, Virginia, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in civil engineering, with significant expertise in water resources, drainage, and infrastructure design; 15-25 years of experience is preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor staff, manage teams, and drive accountability.
  • Strong project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and performance monitoring.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities across multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, consultants, and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with design and modeling software and general office applications (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office).
  • Understanding of regulatory standards, permitting processes, and construction practices related to stormwater management, drainage, and erosion control.
  • Experience with HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8, TR-55, TR-20, HydroCAD, Hydraflow, FlowMaster, and related modeling tools preferred.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification preferred.

Proposed Salary: The salary range varies based on the scope of work, project location, and level of experience, and may fall between $130,000-$185,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
