Job description

                                                            Landscape Supervisor

The Landscape Supervisor is responsible for field landscape operations on the project(s) assigned in order to achieve timely and profitable completion of each project. The Supervisor directly supervises field labor force, including laborers/craft workers, including Foreman. This position must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational and time management skills, as well as have strong communication and client service skills. 

The Landscape Supervisor should have the knowledge to oversee the construction of Public Roads, Highways, Public Parks and Sports Fields. The functionalities of irrigation systems and controllers. Projects range from $500,000 to $30,000,000.  The oversight will include but not be limited to the following Trades:

Earthwork, Grading, Underground Utilities; Sewer, Water, Storm Drain, Masonry, Landscape Irrigation, Concrete Flatwork, Concrete Structures, Electrical, and Asphalt. 

What You'll Do:

  • Direct day-to-day on-site supervision of field labor force including Foreman on project sites;
  • Inspection of Contractor or (Sub)Contract operations to ensure compliance with Contract;
  • Review and approve Payment Applications with Project Manager;
  • Maintain good relationships with internal and external clients, including representatives of Owner and Architect/Engineer;
  • Develop and maintain site logistics plan, in coordination with Project Manager;
  • Conduct quality inspections;
  • Coordinate site testing and inspection efforts.
  • Monitor costs, including labor time and material;
  • Communicate and enforce Safety and Health Management Program and Fleet Program;
  • Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment through own actions and mentoring others;
  • Manage schedules, including preparation of detailed short-term schedules and ensuring all activities take place on or ahead of scheduled dates;
  • Prepare and submit the Supervisor's Daily Reports;
  • Attend and participate in project meetings, including subcontractor meetings from Pre-Construction to Project Closeout.
  • Acting Safety Officer and making Safety a part of the company culture

We're Looking For:

  • Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products;
  • Knowledge of KCI Internal software's, and Field Management Systems;
  • Broad understanding of industry to oversees multiple trades;
  • Familiarity with requirements of drawings and specifications and with terms and conditions of Project Contracts, Subcontracts and Purchase Orders;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Good math/accounting skills;
  • Strong management skills;
  • Strong ability to read drawings and specifications;
  • Functions effectively as part of a team;
  • Exhibits strong leadership qualities;
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times;
  • Delegates work appropriately;
  • Strong decision making/problem solving skills;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Junior College or Vocational education desired;
  • OSHA certification;
  • First Aid/CPR certification;
  • 5+ years of industry experience.

KASA's Expectations of this position

0 to 3 months of Employment

  1. Be responsible for the Project Site Operations from a Managerial and Leadership Role
  2. Be honest and transparent with the Management on everything, Good or Bad. You are our eyes and ears on site.
  3. Oversee all trades and classifications of employees on site
  4. Come to the office at least weekly to work with PM and / or General Super, AP, HR to deliver shipper tickets, timecards, T&Ms, and approve invoices, both price and scope.
  5. Attend All Pre-Construction Meetings
  6. Attend Weekly Meetings
  7. Conduct weekly Safety Meetings every Monday
  8. Review ALL contract documents for each project thoroughly in order to know and understand the work for discussions with Foreman, in terms of Quality Control, and scope. These contract documents include but are NOT limited to Addendums, Contracts, Plans, Specifications, RFI's, Submittals, Soils Reports, etc. 
  9. Be the conduit between the Field, General Super, and Office ( Project Management Team )
  10. Report directly to the General Superintendent on a regular basis for any major issues or problems beyond your authority or ability.
  11. Complete Disciplinary Actions Forms as needed
  12. Embed and preach the KASA Core Values and Safety Culture in ALL Employees
  13. Act as the Safety Officer for the Company, and regularly conduct internal Site Documented Audits
  14. Complete Daily Timecards, Diary, Photos, etc through HCSS ( Heavy Job / Field )
  15. Keep track of inventory: tools, equipment and materials.
  16. Put out fires on a daily basis and be prepared to receive early, late, and weekend phone calls from Foreman, Field workers, other Site Supers, General Super, PMs on various issues if necessary.
  17. Resolve issues in a professional and expeditious manner
  18. Prepare Baseline Schedules with PM Team and provide weekly Updates on Actual Start and Actual Finish of each activity. KASA uses Primavera P6 for project scheduling.
  19. Complete 4 week look - ahead schedule updated weekly.
  20. Complete monthly pay estimates
  21. Perform substantial completion, Final Completion and Close Out walks and meetings
  22. Be very responsive to all Text Messages, Phone Calls, and Emails.
  23. Must be listed on Emergency Contact List
  24. Monitor efficiency and track production daily
  25. Know, understand, and maintain compliance with Apprenticeship requirements.
  26. Know, understand. monitor and track Landscape Tender ratios to Landscape Laborers for compliance.
  27. Know and understand Prevailing Wage Classifications and scopes of work to ensure the employees are not working out of scope.
  28. Assist estimator in questions pertaining to the specifics of tracking actual costs for historical bid information.
  29. Assist in material take-offs and ordering, occasionally.
  30. Take initiative and do whatever possible to help others as a Team Player including moving small tools, equipment, or materials in your truck from office to job, or job to job, if needed to avoid pulling off workers from a jobsite to have it done.
  31. Pull Permits, Water Meter, etc, if necessary.  

3 to 6 months of Employment

  1. Assist in field staff performance reviews quarterly.
  2. Assist in Employee Interviews for New Hires for Field Operations as needed
  3. Terminate field employees as needed upon approval from VP
  4. Establish a system to maintain and track Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance and ensure they are maintained properly and on - time
  5. Assist in Buying / selling company Equipment
  6. Complete As - Builts
  7. Have a thorough understanding of the company's internal Cost reports and cost codes for each project to track budgets and production rates.
  8. Have a thorough understanding of the Public Contract Code, Standard Plans and Specs for Public Works Construction ( Greenbook ), Cal Trans Standards, and other documents that is required and pertinent in our work in the public works sector.
  9. Assist in promoting new trades that KASA can expand on, and Bid on.
  10. Be creative in developing better means, methods, and procedures, to benefit the company
