Job description

Purpose of the Role:
Under the direction of an assigned Landscape Maintenance Foreman, the Landscape Maintenance Crew Member performs turf, basic irrigation, ground cover, shrubs, and tree maintenance services to display nature at its best on Piedmont properties. The crew member also follows Piedmont rules regarding equipment operation and safety; teamwork; time management; and other duties as assigned.

Landscape Maintenance Crew Member Duties:

  • Follows Piedmont methods, procedures, and techniques regarding property maintenance and care
  • Understands and executes the proper use, care, and operation of landscape equipment; assists in maintaining equipment and vehicles; reports items needing repair or replacement to the Operations Manager
  • Ensures proper recording and notification of start and end times, tablet use, tardiness, absences, and time off
  • Adherence to safe work practices and procedures
  • Prepares self-evaluations for performance reviews; works with Foreman, Operations Manager, and Human Resources to plan future path at Piedmont
  • Coordinates with Foreman to map out and execute the landscape maintenance plan on an assigned property; ensures work is performed in accordance with contractual agreements and the Foremanโ€™s direction
  • Detects and corrects inefficient utilization of equipment
  • Offers enhancement suggestions to the Foreman and Account Manager
  • Operates and maintains power equipment per approval of the Foreman; reports items needing repair to the Operations Manager
  • Reports low supplies or needed supplies to the Operations Manager
  • Assists Foreman with DOT truck and trailer inspections; reports broken items or items needing maintenance to the Operations Manager; keeps all equipment clean (trucks and trailers washed 1x a week), safe, and secured
  • May be asked to assist in special projects or after-hours emergency work
  • Must be detail-oriented and quality driven
  • Must be professional in appearance and action
  • Performs related duties as required

Basic Knowledge Requirements:

  • Operations, services, and activities of a landscape maintenance program
  • Proper methods and techniques of planting, cultivating, pruning, and maintaining a variety of lawns, ground covers, plants, shrubs, hedges, and trees
  • Proper equipment operation/safety methods in landscape maintenance (mowers, blowers, edgers, etc.)
  • Weed and shrub control
  • Basic repairs for irrigation
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices

  • Analyze landscape problems, evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations for corrective work
  • Recognize common plants, weeds, and potential property issues
  • Communicate clearly and concisely

Education and Experience:

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED preferred

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

  • Physical - the sufficient physical ability to work outdoors for lengthy periods of time (minimum 10-hour days) including bending, stooping, walking, standing, reaching, twisting, grasping, lifting (up to 50 pounds; up to 100 pounds with assistance); repetitive movements; carrying or pushing equipment; driving motorized vehicles and equipment; being able to see and hear within normal ranges with or without corrective support.
  • Environment - Inside and outside environments working near moving mechanical parts; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, dirt, grease, fumes, gases, potentially hazardous chemicals, electrical energy, and inclement weather conditions including wet and/or humid conditions; work around water; work on slippery surfaces; work near loud noise levels; work near street/road traffic and pedestrians
