Landscape General information

What is a landscape general?

Landscape Generals are professionals responsible for overseeing and coordinating landscaping projects. Their duties typically include managing teams, planning and executing landscape designs, ensuring quality standards, and maintaining budgets and timelines. They work closely with clients, landscape architects, and subcontractors to bring outdoor spaces to life, often handling both softscape (plants, lawns) and hardscape (patios, walkways) elements. Strong leadership, horticultural knowledge, and project management skills are essential for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a landscape general?

To thrive as a Landscape General, you need knowledge of horticulture, landscape construction, and grounds maintenance, often supported by experience or training in landscaping. Familiarity with tools such as mowers, trimmers, irrigation systems, and possibly certifications like OSHA safety training are commonly required. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and effective communication help ensure projects are completed efficiently and to client expectations. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering high-quality landscaping work while maintaining safety and customer satisfaction.
