How to become a landscape consulting?

To become a landscape consultant, individuals typically need a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture, horticulture, or environmental design. Gaining experience through internships or entry-level positions and developing skills in design software like AutoCAD or SketchUp are also important. Professional certification, such as the Landscape Industry Certified Technician, can enhance credibility and job prospects.

What does a landscape consulting do?

A landscape consulting professional provides expert advice on landscape design, planning, and maintenance for outdoor spaces. They assess site conditions, recommend appropriate plants and materials, and may use design tools like CAD. The role often requires knowledge of environmental factors, horticulture, and project management skills.

What are some common challenges landscape consultants face when managing multiple projects simultaneously?

Landscape consultants often juggle several projects at once, which can make time management and prioritization crucial. Balancing client expectations, coordinating with architects and contractors, and ensuring all regulatory requirements are met can be challenging. Clear communication, strong organizational skills, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing project needs are essential in this role. Many consultants find success by leveraging project management tools and maintaining close collaboration with team members and stakeholders.

What is landscape consulting?

Landscape consulting is a professional service that provides expert advice and guidance on the planning, design, development, and management of outdoor spaces. Landscape consultants assess site conditions, recommend sustainable practices, and help clients achieve aesthetically pleasing and functional landscapes. They may work with residential, commercial, or public clients and often collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure successful project outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a landscape consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Landscape Consultant, you need expertise in horticulture, landscape design, site analysis, and often a degree in landscape architecture, environmental science, or a related field. Familiarity with design software (like AutoCAD, SketchUp), GIS systems, and relevant certifications (such as CLARB or state licensure) is typically required. Strong communication, project management, and creative problem-solving skills help build client relationships and manage projects effectively. These skills ensure functional, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing landscapes that meet client and environmental requirements.

Livonia, MI

$70K - $120K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted 15 days ago

Job description

Teddy’s Lawn & Landscape is hiring a full-time Landscape Design/Build Sales Consultant to

help drive our construction division goals for 2026.

This is a high-impact sales role focused on residential landscape construction projects including hardscapes, softscapes, patios, retaining walls, fencing, and full outdoor living environments.

If you are motivated by closing quality projects, earning strong commission, and working with homeowners on $50K+ jobs — this is the opportunity.

About the Role

You will:

  • Meet with qualified homeowner leads
  • Conduct on-site consultations
  • Develop project concepts and scope
  • Present proposals and close projects
  • Manage client relationships through contract signing
  • Collaborate with our production team to ensure smooth handoff

Our ideal projects range from $50,000–$100,000+. We are not looking for someone to sell $2,000 one-off jobs. We are focused on meaningful residential transformations.

What We’re Looking For
  • Proven sales experience (landscape, construction, home improvement, or similar industry preferred)
  • Ability to build trust quickly with homeowners
  • Strong communication and follow-up skills
  • Self-motivated and goal-driven
  • Comfortable working with commission-based compensation
  • Ability to manage multiple leads at once

Design experience or familiarity with 3D landscape software is a plus, but not required if you are strong in sales and client management.

Compensation
  • Base salary + commission
  • Earning potential tied directly to performance
  • Opportunity to grow with an expanding construction division

We are building toward aggressive growth goals in 2026. This position plays a direct role in achieving them.

Why Teddy’s?
  • Established brand in the community
  • Diverse service offerings (design/build, fencing, maintenance, snow)
  • Consistent marketing investment generating inbound leads
  • Clear growth trajectory for the construction division

We are not hiring for personality fit alone — we are hiring someone who wants to sell, produce, and grow.

If you’re ready to close meaningful projects and build a strong book of business, we want to hear from you.

Apply today.
