Job Summary
Summary: Cultivates and maintains landscaping and grounds surrounding campus buildings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Cares for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing and removing thatch, trimming and edging around flower beds, walks and walls.
  • Plants flowers, pulls weeds, repairs structures and maintains outside of buildings as needed.
  • Sweeps walkway of debris and cuts down tree limbs that are posing a danger.
  • Rakes, mulches and prunes the grounds as needed.
  • Decorates gardens with stones and plants.
  • Plants seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees and shrubs.
  • Uses gardening tools to apply mulch for protection.
  • Attaches wires from planted trees to support stakes.
  • Utilizes hand-operated construction equipment.
  • Follows standard operating procedures for assigned tasks and projects; follows all safety protocol.
  • Attends training as required.
  • Deploys for emergency response due to inclement weather, i.e. snow and ice, tornado or other crisis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Rudimentary ability to utilize hand-operated construction equipment.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds and kneel/bend/stoop and perform strenuous labor for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions:
  • Extensive driving, walking and equipment operation. Exposure to: extreme weather conditions, pesticides, fertilizers, pollen producing environment, paint and petroleum products. Work time expectation: 90% of time will be physical labor, 10% training and misc.
