What is a landed?

Landed jobs typically refer to positions related to land management, real estate, or property development. These roles can include land surveyors, land acquisition specialists, property managers, or professionals involved in buying, selling, or managing land and properties. The responsibilities often involve assessing land value, ensuring legal compliance, negotiating deals, and sometimes working with government agencies or private clients. These jobs require knowledge of real estate laws, market trends, and strong negotiation skills. Opportunities exist in both the public and private sectors, depending on the specific role.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in land acquisition and development roles?

Professionals in land acquisition and development often encounter challenges such as navigating complex zoning regulations, securing necessary permits, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders including government agencies, local communities, and private landowners. Additionally, balancing project timelines with budget constraints and environmental considerations can be demanding. Successful collaboration with legal, engineering, and real estate teams is essential to address these challenges and ensure smooth project execution.

Familiarity with property listing platforms, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, and digital marketing tools is essential. Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and networking skills help build trust and close deals effectively. These competencies are crucial for successfully matching clients with properties, navigating legal processes, and achieving sales targets in a competitive market.

Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-driven, analytically minded Full Cycle Manufacturing Cost Accountant / Bookkeeper to oversee our manufacturing cost accounting, inventory valuation, and complete day-to-day financial operations. In this dual-impact position, you will be directly responsible for establishing accurate product costs, tracking manufacturing variances, and maintaining full general ledger compliance under US GAAP.

The ideal candidate possesses deep experience in batch/job manufacturing environments, Standard Costing, Bill of Materials (BOM) cost roll-ups, Work-In-Progress (WIP) tracking, and inventory capitalization (ASC 330). Additionally, you will manage our complete full-cycle accounting workflow—including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), bank reconciliations, payroll coordination, and month-end financial reporting in QuickBooks Online and Katana MRP.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Cost Accounting & Inventory Control

  • Costing & BOM Management: Maintain product costing structures; calculate, update, and audit Bill of Materials (BOM) cost roll-ups, direct labor allocations, machine burden rates, and packaging/raw material costs.
  • Variance Analysis: Monitor, calculate, and analyze manufacturing cost variances—including material purchase price variances (PPV), labor rate/efficiency variances, and material scrap/yield loss variances.
  • WIP & Inventory Capitalization: Oversee inventory cost accounting across Raw Materials, Work-in-Progress (WIP), and Finished Goods in compliance with US GAAP (ASC 330). Accurately capitalize landed costs (freight-in, tariffs, duties, handling fees).
  • Inventory Reconciliations: Perform monthly inventory ledger vs. MRP reconciliations; lead periodic physical inventory cycle counts and resolve inventory adjustments with production and warehouse teams.

Full-Cycle Accounting & US GAAP General Ledger

  • Month-End Close: Execute full month-end close processes, preparing journal entries for COGS adjustments, accrued liabilities, prepaid expenses, revenue recognition, and fixed asset depreciation.
  • Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare accurate monthly and quarterly P&L, Balance Sheet, and Statement of Cash Flows reports, including product margin and gross profit analysis by SKU and customer channel.
  • GL Reconciliation & Internal Controls: Perform double-entry ledger management and balance sheet reconciliations to maintain strict audit readiness and internal controls.

Operations, AP/AR & Payroll

  • Accounts Payable (AP): Execute three-way matching (Purchase Orders, Receiving Log, Vendor Invoice), verify landed freight charges, process payments, and manage vendor relationships.
  • Accounts Receivable (AR): Generate customer invoices, apply incoming ACH/credit payments, evaluate aging reports, and manage customer credit/collections.
  • Compliance & Taxes: Prepare and file monthly/quarterly sales tax returns, maintain 1099 compliance, and coordinate annual tax returns with external CPAs.
  • Payroll Coordination: Partner with HR/Operations to process bi-weekly payroll, allocating labor hours accurately to production jobs and administrative cost centers.

Systems Integration

  • Maintain seamless data integration and reconciliation between QuickBooks Online, Katana MRP, merchant processors, and e-commerce platforms.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 3–5+ years of combined experience in manufacturing cost accounting and full-cycle bookkeeping, ideally within CPG, nutraceutical, supplement, or food manufacturing sectors.
  • US GAAP & Cost Accounting Mastery: Proven expertise in accrual accounting, standard costing methodologies, BOM cost roll-ups, WIP tracking, and landed cost accounting ($$ASC 330$$).
  • Software Proficiency:
    • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
    • Practical experience with MRP/ERP inventory systems (e.g., Katana, Fishbowl, SAP, or similar).
    • Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, financial modeling formulas).
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent practical experience / Certified Management Accountant (CMA) coursework.
  • Analytical Mindset: Exceptional quantitative skills with high accuracy when investigating cost discrepancies, yield losses, or ledger variances.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation or CPA candidate track.
  • Experience in contract manufacturing or private-label production accounting.
  • Familiarity with sales tax compliance tools (e.g., Avalara, TaxJar) and multi-state distribution.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $64,500 to $86,000 (commensurate with experience)
  • Health Benefits: Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision plans
  • Paid Time Off: Competitive PTO, vacation, sick leave, and paid company holidays
  • Retirement Plan: 401(k) with company matching
  • Professional Growth: Support for continuing education, professional certifications, and career growth
