This position is for a Sitework Engineer SR 1 position to support Southern Company s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Substation Design Group as well as providing support to the Transmission Line Design Group. The Engineer will produce engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements for Civil Sitework design projects which includes, but is not limited to, grading and drainage, erosion control, oil containment, etc. With an emphasis on safety, quality, scheduling, and costs. This position will require some travel (approximately 25%). JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education Bachelor s Degree in Engineering is required. O BS in Civil Engineering strongly preferred. Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification required.
A Professional Engineers (PE) license in the state of Georgia is strongly preferred, or the ability to obtain such license within 12-months of hire. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Detailed knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing civil grading design and construction as it relates to NPDES and general construction principals. General knowledge of the activities associated with surveying, land acquisition, and obtaining easements. Detailed knowledge of cost estimating and quantity takeoffs. Detailed knowledge of civil construction methods, equipment, techniques, and associated costs. Detailed knowledge of right-of-way clearing, environmental regulations, and crew support activities and associated costs. Demonstrated ability to design a Civil Sitework land development project including site grading, stormwater design, erosion control, and permitting. Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and apply design criteria and government regulations to design construction drawings. Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and Hydraflow hydrographs, Interconnected Channel and Pond Routing (ICPR), or similar software for stormwater modeling is required. General: o Computer skills to be proficient with standard office software applications. O Must be a self-starter and exhibit strong problem-solving skills. O Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate technical issues simply. O Must work well in a team environment and have the ability to develop and build relationships at all levels. Interpersonal skills sufficient to build working relationships with peers, internal and external customers, and the general public is required. O Must possess effective time management and organizational skills sufficient to manage multiple projects with various priorities and competing deadlines. O Must demonstrate a customer focus with a willingness to meet the needs of our customers and solicit feedback. O Ability to be an effective mentor to others and teach job-related skills.
