Civil Project Manager

Project Manager - Civil Land Development
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager with a strong civil engineering background to lead land development projects from concept through construction. The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with hands-on experience in land development, site design, grading, stormwater management and drainage. This role combines technical engineering leadership, client-facing project management, budget and schedule responsibility, and quality control to deliver residential, commercial, industrial, and higher-education projects on time and within scope.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage land development projects from feasibility and conceptual design through construction administration and closeout.
  • Provide technical leadership in site design, grading, stormwater management, drainage design and civil engineering deliverables.
  • Serve as the primary client contact for project communication, scope management, expectations, and issue resolution.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, invoices, and schedules; track financial performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare and review cost estimates, feasibility studies, and proposals to support business development and project planning.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary teams including engineers, designers, surveyors, and subconsultants to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Ensure design and deliverables meet engineering standards and regulatory requirements; oversee permitting submittals and responses to agencies.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of engineering drawings, calculations and technical documents to maintain high quality and compliance.
  • Utilize Civil 3D and other engineering software for reviewing design production, drafting, and modeling tasks; mentor staff in software use and workflows.
  • Provide construction support, respond to RFIs, review shop drawings, and conduct site visits to verify conformance to design intent.
  • Maintain and grow client relationships through proactive communication, successful project delivery and business development activities.
  • Manage project documentation, contracts, invoicing and record keeping to support project administration and firm compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 6+ years of relevant civil engineering experience with significant land development project work.
  • Demonstrated experience in site design, grading, stormwater management and drainage engineering.
  • Proven project management experience including budgeting, scheduling, client-facing responsibilities and multi-discipline coordination.
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D; working knowledge of AutoCAD, hydrology/hydraulic modeling software and office productivity tools (Excel, Word, MS Project).
  • Experience preparing feasibility studies, cost estimates, proposals and engineering design deliverables.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, leadership ability, and client management experience.
