Job Summary

The Land and Site Development Practice Leader leads the civil design team and is supported by a team of professionals who take the lead on managing successful projects that meet and exceed client expectations. This position combines technical leadership, project management, business development, client relationship management, and staff mentorship to drive the strategic growth and operational success of the department.

Situated within a multidisciplinary department consisting of architects, civil engineers, landscape architects, and aquatics engineers, the site civil team collaborates daily across department disciplines. Current projects consist of commercial site design, land development, and parks & recreation design. In addition to people, project management and business development responsibilities, the Practice Leader coordinates with department leadership to help meet the vision and goals of the department. Externally, the Practice Leader is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with public and private clients, including municipalities and developers.

Responsibilities
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, quality, and client service.
  • Support department and company strategic initiatives.
  • Lead project teams to develop thoughtful designs and meet project goals.
  • Develop project scope, fees, and schedules.
  • Manage projects, overseeing documentation and specification production.
  • Manage QA processes and conduct QC reviews.
  • Mentor senior engineers and project managers.
  • Build strong client relationships.
  • Contribute to marketing efforts and proposal preparation.
  • Collaborate with architects, landscape architects, civil engineers, and aquatics designers to deliver multidisciplinary projects.
  • Manage staff and project teams toward successful completion of projects as well as contributing culturally to the department and company.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • 20+ years of progressive civil engineering experience with a focus on site development and land development projects.
  • Proven leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software.
  • Experience leading teams, managing client relationships, and supporting business development efforts.
  • Established client relationships within public and/or private development markets.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients, projects, and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, and team members.
  • Experience with land and site development, including civil engineering design for municipal, commercial, industrial, educational, residential, and mixed-use development projects.
  • Strong understanding of site civil engineering principles, regulations, and permitting processes.
  • Knowledge of state, county, and municipal ordinances, policies, and standards related to grading, drainage, street improvements, subdivision, and land regulations.
