Job description

Who We Are:

Southern California Public Radio (SCPR) is a member-supported public media network whose mission is to strengthen the civic and cultural bonds that unite Southern California's diverse communities by providing the highest quality news and information service on air at LAist 89.3, online at LAist.com and through LAist Live Programming & Events. Since our founding in 1999, SCPR has been a fast growing, innovative, multi-platform public service newsroom. Every day, our staff helps audiences catch up on the latest headlines, solve the complexities of life in Southern California, and connect curious communities to one another.

To be eligible for this internship, you have to be a current college student in LA County.

Position Summary:

Our internships are opportunities for college students to learn about the real-world demands of working in an award-winning public media newsroom. The Events Intern will have an important role within the LAist Live Programming & Events team. Duties may include assisting with the research of and/or pitching live event ideas and concepts that align with the organization’s mission, values, and arts programming activities; assisting with recruitment and preparation of event panelists and other participants, including artistic talent; learning and performing various event production tasks, including set-up, audio and video recording, and audience services; and assisting hosts and producers after, during, and after events as needed.

This position will work approximately 20 hours a week from June through December 2026 in person at our headquarters in Pasadena to help produce events for The Crawford, the performance and community convening space, and possibly for other venues across Southern California.

This position is supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Department of Arts and Culture’s Los Angeles County Arts Internship Program.

Compensation: The pay rate for this opportunity will be $18.66 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Current college student in LA County

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Strong communication, research and planning skills
  • Ability to manage daily workload efficiently (good time management skills)
  • Ability to meet deadlines as assigned

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in a journalism, arts, or public event environment and/or interest in a career in journalism, the arts, or public events
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and a CMS
  • Familiarity with the mission and values of public radio

  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
