The goals of the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics program in MN are to 1) increase access to community-based mental health and substance use disorder services (particularly to under-served communities), 2) advance integration of behavioral health with physical health care, and 3) improve utilization of evidence-based practices on a more consistent basis.

Job Summary:

The Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) provides professional substance use disorder (SUD) assessment, treatment planning, counseling, and case management services to individuals struggling with alcohol and drug use. The LADC delivers both individual and group counseling, utilizing evidence-based practices to support clients in developing coping skills, building recovery capital, and achieving long-term sobriety. This role also includes maintaining accurate clinical documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, coordinating referrals to community resources, and promoting a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive substance use disorder (SUD) assessments, screenings, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide care coordination support across the continuum, ensuring that clients experience effective transitions in care.
  • Facilitate educational groups focused on relapse prevention, coping skills, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Support clients in setting recovery goals and developing strategies to achieve and maintain sobriety.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations (e.g., HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2) in the electronic health record (CREDIBLE).
  • Participate in Range Treatment Center multidisciplinary case staff meetings.
  • Cross train in other SUD programs across Range Treatment Center, including residential, outpatient, adolescent, and detox/withdrawal management programs.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing board standards, agency policies, and ethical guidelines
  • Represent Range Mental Health Center and assume other functions and duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Act as a liaison to other Range Mental Health Center programs and outside agencies with regards to Chemical Dependency services and illnesses, ensuring well-coordinated client care
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Strong knowledge of substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and treatment approaches.
  • Proficiency in conducting assessments, treatment planning, and clinical documentation.
  • Ability to deliver individual, group, and family counseling using evidence-based practices.

  • Active listening and motivational interviewing skills to build trust and rapport.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

  • Strong understanding of HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and other confidentiality standards.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks with flexibility and adaptability in dynamic treatment environments.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office, email, telehealth platforms).
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and other clinical documentation systems.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules, cross train in multiple programs, and participate in alternating weekend and holiday coverage (every 5th Saturday, for example), as program needs require.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is a requirement to this position

Education and Experience:

  • Current and active Minnesota LADC license (ADC-T is acceptable if working towards permanent licensure.)
  • Two years of freedom from chemical usage problems.
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral processes.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience working with adolescents, adults, and/or co-occurring mental health conditions is strongly valued.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education to maintain licensure.
  • Ability to pass a Department of Human Services background check.
  • Current Minnesota driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift 15 pounds
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and through electronic platforms.
  • Capability to handle periods of high stress, including crisis situations, while maintaining professionalism and composure.
