Specialist, Employee Relations (Regular, Full-time)

People & Culture


Reporting to the Vice President of People & Culture, the Employee Relations Specialist plays a key role in fostering a positive and respectful work environment at LACMA. This position is responsible for addressing employee concerns, conducting thorough investigations into workplace issues, including complaints and disciplinary matters, and ensuring consistent application of policies, through clear communication, conflict resolution, and proactive people-first strategies. Working within the People & Culture team, the specialist partners with leadership and staff to support LACMAโ€™s commitment to collaboration, professionalism and respectful treatment of others in all aspects of employment.


Responsibilities:

  • Manages employee relations for assigned client groups within the Museum, including job description updates, performance management, investigations, and disciplinary actions

  • Serves as a trusted point of contact for staff regarding workplace concerns, conflict resolution, and policy interpretation

  • Conducts and documents investigations in a thorough, timely, and impartial manner, maintaining accurate records of employee relations cases and outcomes

  • Provides guidance and training to managers and supervisors on effective coaching, corrective action, and conflict resolution

  • Develops and tracks employee relations metrics

  • Tracks employee inquiries and analyzes trends, and recommends proactive strategies to enhance workplace morale and organizational culture

  • Researches and recommends best practices for workplace conflict mediation and resolution

  • Recommends plan to develop and improve People & Culture service KPIs

  • Supports AVP with LACMAโ€™s Management Training Series

  • Compiles resources for management coaching

  • Supports the development and administration of policies and procedures in alignment with LACMA's employee engagement goals and contributes to a positive and inclusive workplace culture

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations

Benefits:

  • The expected annual salary for this Los Angeles, CA-based position is $70,000.00- $75,000.00, subject to change, and the position is eligible for LACMAโ€™s comprehensive benefits package, including pension plan.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or relevant HR certification

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the human resources field, with a strong focus on employee relations.

  • Strong knowledge of California labor and employment laws and HR best practices

  • Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive matters with empathy, discretion, and professionalism.

  • Experience with conflict resolution, coaching, and conducting workplace investigations.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative mindset

  • Experience working with diverse employee populations
