Job description
As a Technician in the Superconducting Magnet team at HTIC, you will carry out a broad range of complex engineering assignments supporting the development of novel superconducting magnet prototypes, including magnet coil winding, cold mass build-up, and cryostat assembly. Assignments may include but are not limited to set-up and operation of data acquisition equipment, execution of experiments, troubleshooting of hardware/test systems, documentation and reporting of test results. The Superconducting Magnet Technician also supports compliance and quality activities within the lab and serves as a technical resource for other team members.Job Description
Job Responsibilities
Apply initiative and independent judgment to build, evaluate and improve complex magnet assemblies and test setups from conceptual descriptions and ideas.
Collaborate with the team to identify potential failure modes in advance and carry out advanced troubleshooting across multiple interacting variables, driving thorough root cause analysis, and lasting solutions.
Propose and execute experiments and diagnostic tests to develop conclusions and solutions.
Will have opportunities to take the lead on hardware evaluations, planning and executing them using knowledge of magnet construction, system operation, and specialized engineering tools, with guidance from engineers and scientists.
Communicate recommendations that improve design, manufacturing process, reliability, functionality, serviceability, and workflow, including input on externally sourced components and materials.
Own day-to-day operational responsibilities spanning EHS, purchasing, inventory control, workspace organization, documentation, and task prioritization.
Work with the management team to lead and deploy technical and EHS training plans, as needed.
Comply with EHS regulations and policies.
Requirements/ Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering or technology related field or Associate's degree with 5 to 7 years' experience in electromagnetic coil or electronics winding (superconducting coils preferred).
Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to understand and address root causes of mechanical issues in magnet fabrication in investigational prototypes.
Ability to draw accurate conclusions from test data, malfunctions, or deviations, and coordinate implementation of corrections to the existing design or process
High proficiency in interpreting and explaining complex technical information.
Adaptable to changes to work priorities and design decisions
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work effectively both within a collaborative team setting, and independently.
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. You will need to have valid, on-going authorization to work in the U.S.
Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
