Labview Development information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a LabVIEW Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a LabVIEW Developer, you need strong expertise in graphical programming, experience with test automation, and a background in engineering or computer science. Familiarity with National Instruments LabVIEW software, DAQ hardware, and certifications like Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) are typically required. Problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating on complex projects and troubleshooting issues. These skills ensure efficient system development, reliable test automation, and smooth team collaboration in high-tech environments.

How much do LabVIEW programmers make?

LabVIEW programmers typically earn between $70,000 and $110,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Senior roles or those with specialized skills in hardware integration or certification can command higher salaries. Entry-level positions generally start around $60,000 to $70,000.

Is LabVIEW a good career?

LabVIEW development is a specialized role focused on designing and implementing test, measurement, and control systems using the LabVIEW software platform. It offers opportunities in industries such as automation, aerospace, and manufacturing, often requiring knowledge of programming, hardware integration, and system design. The career can be stable and well-paying for those with technical skills and relevant certifications, with demand driven by industry needs for automation and data acquisition systems.

What is the difference between Labview Development vs Test Automation Engineer?

AspectLabview DevelopmentTest Automation Engineer
Required CredentialsTypically requires a degree in engineering or computer science, with LabVIEW certification often preferred.Requires a degree in engineering, computer science, or related field; certifications in testing tools are common.
Work EnvironmentPrimarily lab and development settings, working on hardware integration and data acquisition.Mostly office and lab environments, focusing on designing and executing automated tests.
Industry UsageUsed in manufacturing, aerospace, and research for data acquisition and control systems.Common in electronics, automotive, and software industries for quality assurance and testing.

While both roles involve testing and data analysis, Labview Development focuses on creating software for hardware control and data acquisition, whereas Test Automation Engineers design and implement automated testing processes to ensure product quality.

What are some common challenges faced by LabVIEW Developers and how can they be addressed?

LabVIEW Developers often face challenges such as integrating LabVIEW with legacy hardware, managing large and complex codebases, and ensuring efficient collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. To address these, developers should maintain clear documentation, utilize LabVIEW's modular programming features, and follow best practices for version control. Regular code reviews and open communication with hardware engineers and project managers also help streamline development and troubleshoot issues quickly.

What jobs in the US pay 300,000 a year?

In the US, senior roles such as experienced software engineers, data scientists, and engineering managers can earn $300,000 or more annually, especially with specialized skills, certifications, and leadership responsibilities. High-level executive positions like CTOs or CFOs also typically reach or exceed this salary level, often requiring extensive experience and advanced degrees.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced engineers in specialized fields such as software engineering, petroleum engineering, or aerospace engineering can earn $500,000 or more annually, often through a combination of base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Senior roles requiring advanced skills, certifications, and extensive experience are typically associated with such high compensation levels.

What is LabVIEW development?

LabVIEW development refers to the process of designing, creating, and maintaining applications using LabVIEW, which is a graphical programming environment developed by National Instruments. LabVIEW is widely used for data acquisition, instrument control, and industrial automation. Developers use LabVIEW's visual interface to create programs, or 'virtual instruments,' by connecting functional blocks instead of writing traditional code. This approach is especially popular in engineering, scientific research, and manufacturing settings where rapid prototyping and hardware integration are essential.

Job description

Position Summary
We are looking for motivated Thermal Engineers to develop cutting-edge products for our military, governmental, and commercial customers. Systems we design are specifically tuned for the customers' needs and ranges from single-phase pumped loops, vapor compression and other lifting cycles, and radiation thermal management. Our current designs extend the range of hypersonic vehicles, enable power dense laser weapons on small platforms, and lower size, weight, and power for aerospace systems. Components we routinely develop include coldplates for electronics, heat exchangers, thermal energy storage devices, and mechanical components for thermal systems. Our group of thermal engineers drive products from conception to production including product ideation, research, laboratory/prototype builds, experimental testing, and design for manufacture. Individual engineers lead their own projects and research. Your creativity and interest determine the next technology you investigate. We currently use advanced techniques like microchannel cooling, three-dimensional cooling passages through additive manufacturing, membrane enhanced cooling, oscillating heat pipes. This position includes proposal writing for your next idea, analytical calculations, computational simulations (CFD and FEA), laboratory build and testing, and direct customer interfacing.
Position Requirements
  • We are looking for people that fit our values
    • problem solvers; people that can innovate solutions to real-world problems
    • relentless intellectual curiosity
    • service-minded individuals
    • Internally motivated
  • Hands-on laboratory test experience
  • BSME or MSME
  • US Citizenship required due to strict ITAR regulations
  • GPA not less than 3.3 for all degrees
  • Solid understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics
  • Experience with data acquisition systems (LabVIEW preferred) including temperature, pressure, flow, and other sensors
  • CFD/FEA modeling (ANSYS/FLUENT) experience is a plus
