Tessera is seeking a dependable and hardworking Laborer to support the Base Maintenance Contract at USAFA. This role is essential to maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of the installation. The Laborer performs a variety of manual tasks including material handling, refuse collection, snow removal, and general facility support.
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assist skilled trades personnel (e.g., electricians, plumbers, carpenters) with tools, materials, and basic tasks.

  • Perform general maintenance such as cleaning, debris removal, and site preparation.

  • Load, unload, and transport materials, equipment, and supplies across the installation.

  • Operate basic hand tools and power equipment under supervision.

  • Load and unload trucks and other conveyances; move supplies and materials.

  • Dig, fill, and tamp earth excavations; level ground using hand tools such as picks, shovels, tampers, and rakes.

  • Shovel concrete and snow; spread sand and deicer on icy roads and walkways.

  • Clean culverts, ditches, roofs, and gutters to maintain drainage and safety.

  • Support road patching and minor repair activities as directed.

  • Empty outdoor trash cans and cigarette disposal containers; remove litter and debris from designated areas.

  • Respond to work orders and assist with setup or teardown for base events or facility changes.

  • Assist with customer requests such as staging chairs and lighting for events, and disposing of used pallets and packing materials.

  • Maintain work areas in clean and orderly condition.

  • Perform on-call/standby work as needed.

  • Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • All Other Duties as Assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1 year of general labor or maintenance experience preferred.
  • Experience working on military installations or government contracts is a plus.
  • Familiarity with basic hand tools and manual labor techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Physical Requirements:
Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.
  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
