Job description

About the Role

We are hiring General Laborers to support our sewer repair and excavation crews across Chicago and the suburbs. This is hands-on outdoor work: digging, hauling, site setup, backfill, and restoration. You will work alongside experienced technicians who will teach you the trade as you go.

No experience is required. If you show up on time, work hard, and want to learn, this job is a starting point. We hope to find Laborers who want to learn and grow within the company.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the crew on repair and excavation jobs — hand dig around utilities, shovel, move soil, and keep the work area organized.
  • Set up and break down job sites — place cones, barricades, and signage; protect customer property with floor coverings and containment; load and unload tools, pipe, and materials.
  • Operate hand and small power tools — shovels, jackhammers and breakers, saws, plate compactors, and pumps, with training provided.
  • Backfill and restore — backfill and compact trenches in lifts, and assist with concrete, asphalt, sod, and landscape restoration.
  • Assist with drain work — help feed and pull rodding cable and jetter hose, and support camera inspections under a technician’s direction.
  • Keep everything clean — clean up the job site fully before leaving, and help maintain trucks, tools, the shop, and the yard.
  • Work safely — follow trench safety and locate-mark rules, wear required PPE at all times, spot for equipment, and speak up immediately about unsafe conditions.

What We’re Looking For

  • 18 years or older.
  • Reliable transportation to our shop each morning.
  • Willing and able to do physical outdoor work every day, year-round.
  • Dependable and punctual — the crew cannot start short-handed.
  • Takes direction well, and is willing to learn the trade.
  • Respectful around customers and their homes.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to Have (Not Required)

  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to our insurance carrier.
  • Prior construction, landscaping, excavation, concrete, or warehouse experience.
  • Bilingual English / Spanish.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lift and carry up to 75 lbs and perform sustained manual digging.
  • Bend, kneel, crawl, climb ladders and stairs, and stand or walk for the full shift.
  • Work outdoors in all Chicago weather conditions, year-round.
  • Operate vibrating and powered equipment for extended periods.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Occasional overtime on week days as needed.
