From construction management and observation/inspection services to laboratory testing and materials and forensic engineering, our Construction Services market helps to develop and maintain America's infrastructure and supply chain and is a recognized industry leader with more than 25 accredited laboratories. 

Step into Your New Role

Kleinfelder is currently seeking a Geotechnical and Materials Testing Laboratory Supervisor to perform testing, and provide coordination, quality management, and oversight to its lab in Stockton, California.  Kleinfelder’s Stockton Laboratory performs complex Geotechnical Testing and Construction Materials Testing.
  

The Laboratory Supervisor will manage all activities related to performance of laboratory testing in support of the Stockton Geotechnical and Construction Materials Engineering and Testing Laboratory.   They will meet agreed upon project deadlines by performing testing; scheduling technicians and managing workload; They will confirm that technicians correctly perform testing, calibrations, and calculations and computations by implementing and maintaining the requirements of the Kleinfelder Quality Management System; and hire, train, coordinate and supervise assigned staff.  Works independently, using industry knowledge to solve problems of moderate scope.  The successful candidate will bring strong leadership and knowledge of commercial laboratory operations. 

Position responsibilities will include:

  • Promote, sustain, and demonstrate Kleinfelder's values and safety commitment.
  • Prudently manage resources and staff to ensure efficiency and quality. 
  • Supervise operational personnel (laboratory staff), including resource coordination, internal quality control, and management of deliverables.
  • Communicate with clients and coworkers to deliver laboratory services successfully and profitably on a consistent basis.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance for staff performing a wide range of testing, from complex geotechnical testing to basic construction materials testing. 
  • Represent Kleinfelder in local professional organizations. 
  • Responsible for making sure project deadlines are met by providing proper scheduling, coordination, and organization of items to be tested and available resources.
  • Responsible to perform routine to complex lab testing including soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and masonry materials.
  • Responsible for performing the testing, documentation, computations, and quality review in accordance with Kleinfelder's Quality Management System Manual and applicable testing standards (e.g. ASTM, AASHTO, Caltrans, etc.).
  • Ensures that laboratory equipment and various field equipment is properly maintained and calibrated in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Ensure that the laboratory maintains a clean and orderly appearance.
  • Maintenance of Kleinfelder's local lab accreditations. 
  • Experienced in establishing and maintaining relationships through excellent communication, professionalism, and client service focus to both internal and external clients.

Consideration for this position requires the following experience:

  • 6-10 years of experience with laboratory testing of construction materials.  Emphasis will be placed on experience that includes complex Geotechnical Testing, such as Triaxial strength testing ,  Consolidations and Index testing.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction technology, construction management, or related engineering field preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, maintaining composure, and working effectively in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. 
  • Able to use a company provided laptop or tablet computer and a working knowledge of MS Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Organization and multi-tasking ability. 
  • A good work ethic, attention to detail, and high level of personal integrity. 
  • Authorization to work in the United States. 

 In addition to the above required experience, hiring preference will be given to those with the following certifications or experience:

  • Previous experience as a laboratory supervisor. 
  • Previous experience with Geotechnical testing, such as Triaxial Strength Testing, Consolidations, and Index Testing.Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Fundamental of Engineering (FE) certification
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI) certifications:
    • Aggregate Testing Technician - Level 1 or 2
    • Aggregate/Soils Base Testing Technician
    • Concrete Strength Testing Technician
    • Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician - Level 1 or 2
  • Caltrans
    • JTCP Soils and Aggregate
    • JTCP HMA I & II
  • Additional Caltrans Certifications
  • Nuclear density gauge safety, handling, operation, and transporting training/certification.

 

Following an offer, candidates will be required to satisfactorily complete employment reference checks, verification of professional licensure and/or educational credentials, a motor vehicle report (MVR), and a comprehensive background check.

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Scale Disclosure Law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary range: $102,684-$150,000 annually.
