Job description

The Laboratory IS Program Coordinator will facilitate communication, integration and problem solving with Beaker/Lab IT and Community Heath Teams and will be responsible for supporting the laboratory management team in coordinating select laboratory IS projects, upgrades, workflow improvements and other support functions. This role will ensure the laboratory is in accordance with all regulatory agencies and ensure all required documentation is in order and available to auditors. Additionally, the Laboratory IS Program Coordinator will participate in organizational and lab based quality improvement and compliance activities and reports to the Laboratory Billing and Compliance Program Manager.
  • Aligns work to organizational objectives throughout UVA Health Enterprise
  • UVA Lab liaison to Community Health (and any future acquisitions), to ensure teams work to standardize workflow, reference ranges and test menus
  • Creates, communicates, and maintains project reports
  • Partners with UVA Lab Beaker and laboratory teams for middleware/software updates and reference lab builds by ensuring lab teams are informed, testing is completed and appropriate documentation is maintained
  • Ensures all regulatory requirements are met and documented, i.e., calculations, interface verification, auto-verification rules, etc.
  • Participates in team, project, and department meetings
  • Identifies solutions to complex clinical, business directives, or implementation impediments.
  • Provides consultative services to customers and technologists as to the workflow processes and incorporation of technology solutions.
  • Solves production and maintenance problems, documents process and creates action plans delineating steps and procedures.
  • Analyzes tasks and problems;, determining the most efficient and cost-effective method to accomplish work.
  • In collaboration with Medical Directors and Lead Techs, implements and modifies test plans for information technology systems including unit and system testing
  • Develops clear, concise training materials for staff across laboratory and conducts customer educational sessions.
  • Executes comprehensive testing plans to verify critical clinical or business outputs and system integrity.
  • Prepares standard operating procedures and policies
  • Documents and prioritizes issues with vendors; stays current with vendor trends, strategic plans and technology.
  • Schedules loading bundles and fixes with vendor, systems group and customers.
  • Examines techniques in use and determining appropriate changes to effect improvements, reduce costs and enhance internal operational business processes.
  • Demonstrates ongoing dedication to expanding clinical and/or business expertise and applies new skills and knowledge.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Analysis: Provides and maintains optimal data repository
  • Develops data reporting to support laboratory general operations
  • Utilizes reports to facilitate the monitoring and optimization of testing
  • Maintains competency with data analysis software and . Conducts gap analyses for operational standardization of automation systems.

Communication: Ensures timely and consistent communication.
  • Ensures timely responses to team requests and inquiries.
  • Provides high-level patient, peer and vendor and customer service.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with other healthcare professionals.
  • Collaborates professionally within multi-disciplinary teams.

Quality: Checks and controls quality and accuracy of work
  • Prioritizes workflow ensuring all services are performed in a timely manner.
  • Considerable knowledge of laboratory testing names

Teamwork: Works within a team to achieve patient and team goals.
  • Participates in the onboarding and training of new team members.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's Degree required from an accredited college or university in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science or Information Systems or combination of the above. Graduate degree in healthcare related field preferred.
Experience: 5 years of leadership experience in a complex health environment and experience in laboratory middleware, software and/or hardware preferred.
License/Certification: Medical Technologist or categorical, CT, HTL, ASCP or equivalent, preferred. May require a valid Virginia Driver's License. DI Training within 12 months of hire. Project Management trained and certified preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing, sitting for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping, reaching and repetitive motion. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
The starting base rate for this role is $33.27 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
