Our Immunology franchise is advancing a diverse pipeline targeting autoimmune and inflammatory conditions across rheumatology, neuroimmunology, and rare dermatology.

Could you be our next Associate Director, Research Laboratory Operations? The job is in our Waltham MA Office. This is an onsite position five days a week. You will report to the Director, Research Laboratory Strategy & Management.

The Associate Director, Research Laboratory Operations serves as the principal operational leader and key point of contact for Research laboratory operations at Waltham and Schlieren.

This operational role is responsible for developing, executing, and overseeing the operational framework that supports world-class scientific research at Waltham and Schlieren. The AD is accountable for daily laboratory operations at Waltham and strategic oversight across Waltham and Schlieren with responsibility for managing integrated facility management contracts, external vendors and lab support services.

You will ensure operational excellence, consistency, cost effectiveness and compliance at Waltham and Schlieren, enabling seamless and standardized support for scientific teams.

You will partner closely with Finance, EHS, Facilities, TES and POE and vendor management frameworks and Research leadership to manage the Research operations at Waltham and Schlieren and capital budget and drive transparency, efficiency, and innovation in laboratory operational practices.

Strategic Leadership & Execution
  • Develop and implement a strategy for Research laboratories in Waltham and Schlieren that support Research’s scientific goals and the broader business objectives
  • Ensure consistency and alignment in laboratory operational processes with other Research sites accounting for local operating models
  • Working with POE SD Search/Research ensure delivery of Research laboratory operational support to Research functions
  • Lead Research laboratory operational planning and execution to support scientific priorities and business objectives.
Operational Excellence
  • Ensure consistent operational design, compliance, and best practices for laboratories at the Waltham and Schlieren sites
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality
  • Engage with TES, POE, EHS and Tech Ops to deliver improvement initiatives and act as single point of contact for Research laboratories at Waltham and Schlieren sites
Budget & Resource Management
  • Oversee the Waltham research operations and the capital budget for Waltham and Schlieren in partnership with manager and Finance
  • Ensure transparent, consistent, and optimized resource allocation including external resources
  • Optimize laboratory footprint so it is flexible and fit for purpose for the future Research organization
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Research laboratory operations and scientific/business leaders
  • Foster strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to align Research laboratory operational support with research needs
  • Manage IFM contracts, external vendors, and lab support services for the sites
Governance & Compliance
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory, safety, and ethical standards across all Research operations in all jurisdictions
  • Implement and monitor compliance frameworks and risk mitigation strategies for the research laboratories
Team Leadership
  • Lead and develop a high-performing global laboratory operations team including internal and external resources
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Postgraduate degree (preferably MSc or PhD) and / or extensive experience in R&D operations including laboratories
  • 5+ years relevant industry experience and / or equivalent experience in a relevant academic environment
  • Demonstrated ability in managing matrixed teams that are cross-functional, multicultural and international
  • Experience with requirements from government regulatory agencies with deep understanding of industry best practices

The expected base salary range for this position at hiring is $180,000 - $210,000. Please note this salary range reflects the minimum and maximum base pay that CSL expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting in MA. Individual base salary for a successful candidate is determined by qualifications, skill level, experience, competencies and other relevant factors. In addition to base salary, total compensation for this role may also include incentive compensation and equity.
