Job description

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), a world-renowned independent research institution, is seeking an experienced operations leader to serve as Logistics Specialists. This role is responsible for the Laboratory’s Receiving, Shipping, Material Movement, and Fulfillment operations, ensuring the efficient flow of materials and equipment that support scientific research across the campus

The Logistics Specialist will execute daily operations in compliance with established policies and procedures, and perform high-quality logistics services in a fast-paced, research-driven environment.

Position Responsibilities:

· Handle Incoming and outgoing package delivery, mailroom operations, warehouse activities, material movement, and records retention functions.

· Receive inbounds using the internal Logistics / Workday software

· Provide feedback to the Manager to ensure quality control measures, accuracy, efficiency, and service excellence.

· Assist in training new employees.

· Follow departmental policies, procedures, goals, and objectives in collaboration with Laboratory leadership.

· Maintain accurate records of all materials received and shipped by the department.

· Delivery and movement of incoming shipments and equipment with departments throughout the Laboratory.

· Prepare outbound shipments, including required documentation, and arrange carrier pickups.

· Inspect departmental facilities, vehicle fleet, and equipment; arrange maintenance, repairs, or replacements as needed.

· Ensure proper operation and maintenance of material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.).

· Perform additional logistics-related responsibilities as assigned by management.

Position Requirements:

· Must be at least 18 years old

· Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle

· Material handling equipment experience.

· Strong computer skills, including basic data entry and familiarity with common software

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in warehouse/mailroom environments

· Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours during peak season

· Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instruction

Education

· High School or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

· College Preferred

Experience

· At least 1 year of experience in logistics, distribution, or materials management, with a demonstrated focus on operational improvement and customer service.

Other Requirements

· Valid driver’s license.

· Forklift Certification to operate forklifts and utilize other material handling equipment.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $17.37-20.72. The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining a base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity).
