Primary Purpose
The Environmental Compliance Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient management of customer waste materials within the chemical waste disposal line of business. This position requires knowledge of hazardous waste identification, profiling, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate brings experience in the waste industry and/or laboratory chemistry, with the ability to interpret chemical compositions, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and analytical testing results to accurately classify and manage waste streams. This role assists in ensuring regulatory compliance and strengthening relationships with customers and vendors.
What You'll Do:
  • Waste Profiling Assistance: Contribute to the profiling process by collecting required information and preparing materials for review, helping maintain compliance with EPA, RCRA, DOT, and state regulations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Assign accurate RCRA waste codes, DOT classifications, state specific codes, Form and Source codes, and other regulatory requirements for all waste streams with some guidance.
  • Leverage Technical Experience: Conduct reviews of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), analytical data, and chemical compositions to support regulatory compliance, including proper handling, storage, and disposal practices.
  • Support Vendor Relationships: Review vendor profiles to ensure compliance, resolve discrepancies with some guidance, and drive timely approvals.
  • Provide Technical Support and Guidance: Offer regulatory guidance to the sales teams, customers, and internal branches on waste characterization, regulatory requirements, and disposal options. Foster relationships with sales teams and customers to enhance the profiling experience to drive compliance.
  • Data Integrity: Maintain accurate waste stream data in profiling portals, vendor forms, and vendor systems to ensure compliance and integrity.
  • Optimize TSDF Selection: Analyze supply plans, vendor capabilities, and geographic considerations to select appropriate treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs) with some guidance.
  • Monitor Cost and Margin: Validate technical approvals, review technology changes, and confirm disposal facility costs to obtain gross margin targets.
  • Strive for Continuous Improvement: Monitor regulatory changes and industry best practices to strengthen compliance processes. Support annual RCRA and DOT refresher training as required.

What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in hazardous waste management or a related technical role.
  • Strong understanding of RCRA, DOT, and state-specific regulations
  • Experience in hazardous waste identification and accurate application of regulatory codes.
  • Experience in interpreting SDS and evaluating chemical analyses for waste profiling.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Competence in data entry and compliance documentation systems.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt priorities to meet business objectives.
