Analytical Quality Chemist
Huntsman is seeking an Analytical Quality Chemist supporting the Performance Products Division located in Conroe, Texas. This position will report to the Quality Manager.
Job Scope
The Analytical Quality Chemist is responsible for supporting the Conroe manufacturing site through quality systems leadership, analytical chemistry expertise, laboratory operations, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role serves as a subject matter expert for quality management systems, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and other regulatory requirements while supporting manufacturing operations through laboratory testing, root cause investigations, risk management activities, and SAP Quality Management (QM) optimization. The position works cross-functionally with Operations, Technical, Quality, and R&D teams to maintain product quality, laboratory excellence, and regulatory compliance.
In summary, as the Analytical Quality Chemist, you will:
  • Serve as the site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for quality systems, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Support and maintain the site's Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  • Facilitate management reviews, internal audits, external ISO audits, and customer audits.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions, Control Plans, and quality documentation.
  • Lead quality investigations utilizing root cause analysis methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, CAPA, and 8D processes.
  • Monitor site quality KPIs and trends and present data-driven recommendations to site leadership.
  • Verify calibration, maintenance, and performance of wet chemistry and analytical laboratory instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot analytical methods, instrumentation issues, and out-of-specification laboratory results.
  • Ensure laboratory testing activities comply with approved methods, procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Maintain laboratory records and support data integrity within SAP and laboratory systems.
  • Evaluate and help implement new laboratory technologies, automation tools, and testing methodologies to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Manage and optimize SAP Quality Management (QM) processes, including quality planning, traceability, and New Product Introduction (NPI) support.
  • Support integration of SAP QM with other business systems to ensure effective quality workflows.
  • Facilitate and support Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities in partnership with Quality Engineers.
  • Participate in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives and company-required training programs.
  • Serve as Document Control Manager for quality documentation and records management.

Qualifications
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

OR
  • Master of Science degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
  • Experience conducting root cause investigations and implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Experience working with SAP Quality Management (QM) or similar quality management systems.
  • Strong wet chemistry laboratory experience.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical problem-solving capabilities.

  • Experience with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and CAPA programs.
  • Experience supporting laboratory automation, technology implementation, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Knowledge of New Product Introduction (NPI) processes within SAP.
  • Experience supporting chemical manufacturing operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory information systems and data integrity requirements.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives within quality and laboratory environments.

Working Environment
  • Work is performed in both office and laboratory environments supporting a chemical manufacturing facility.
  • Requires regular interaction with laboratory instrumentation, chemical materials, and testing equipment.
  • May require handling chemical substances and use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Frequent data analysis, documentation, auditing, and laboratory investigations.
  • Ability to work safely in manufacturing and laboratory settings while complying with all Huntsman Environmental, Health, and Safety requirements.
  • Occasional participation in manufacturing troubleshooting and process improvement activities.
  • Must maintain compliance with quality, regulatory, and safety standards applicable to the site and business operations.
