Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and the Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations** \r\n

Nature of Work

The primary purpose of this classification is to\r\nprovide oversight of a small team composed of semi-skilled and unskilled\r\nworkers, while actively participating in maintenance and construction projects\r\nacross various City of Montgomery departments. The work responsibilities include\r\nplanning work assignments, supervising personnel engaged in both skilled and\r\nsemi-skilled tasks, and maintaining accurate documentation of project\r\nactivities. The Labor Foreman I position is defined by its dual function as\r\nboth a working supervisor and an active contributor to the execution of\r\nassigned tasks. The incumbent must possess comprehensive knowledge of the\r\nduties performed by the crew, as well as the operation of relevant equipment,\r\nin order to effectively monitor work progress and provide on-the-job training\r\nto employees. Work assignments are generally issued at the beginning of each\r\nshift, and it is the responsibility of the foreman to prioritize and allocate\r\ntasks accordingly. In instances of unforeseen events or unexpected\r\ncircumstances, the foreman consults with higher-level supervisors for direction\r\nand resolution. The Labor Foreman I position is differentiated from Labor\r\nForeman II positions primarily by the skill level of the subordinates under\r\ntheir supervision.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D and\r\none (1) year of experience as a lead worker on a utility, construction, or\r\nmaintenance crew.\r\nNOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience\r\nthat provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job\r\nwill be considered.\r\n

Special Requirements

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:This\r\nposition requires possession of an Alabama Commercial Driver's License as\r\nneeded to drive and operate city vehicles and equipment.\r\n\r\n\r\nWORKING CONDITIONS:The position primarily involve outdoor\r\nwork, requiring travel over rough, uneven, or rocky terrain and exposure to a\r\nvariety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain and dust. Duties may\r\ninvolve handling substances, such as cleaning fluids, chemicals, pesticides,\r\ninsecticides, paint, and cleaning or similar solutions. Work may include weekends\r\nduring peak seasons or around special city events with extended hours occasionally\r\nrequired to meet project deadlines. Some positions may require shift work.\r\n\r\n\r\nPHYSICAL ABILITIES:Physical ability to lift and move\r\nobjects from 50-70 pounds as needed to move materials at work site.Physical ability\r\nto sit, stand, walk, stoop, bend, climb ladder, and reach above head repeatedly\r\nfor extended periods of time as needed to complete various work tasks.\r\n\r\n
