Job Description

Peterson Cat has a need for an Industrial Oil Analysis Lab Assistant at our Eugene, OR location.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following reflects management's definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign or reassign the functions to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons. Job functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain a safe working environment and observe all safety procedures, laws, policies, and rules.
  • Open, sort, and prep samples for daily operation.
  • Set up instrumentation and prepare calibration standards for daily analysis runs.
  • Shake, tray, and uncap fluid samples.
  • Enter, update, and maintain computer system data related to fluid samples.
  • Perform dilutions for Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP)/Particle count
  • Use appropriate lab equipment to perform accurate and efficient chemical and physical tests on fluid samples, including but not limited to:
    • Viscometry
    • Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy
    • Gas Chromatography (GC)
    • Hot Plate/Water
    • Total Base Number (TBN)
    • Total Acid Number (TAN)
    • Microbiological Testing
  • Prepare, process, and ship coolant samples
  • Answer customer questions related to fluid samples and fluid analysis lab services over the phone and in person, working with teammates as needed to ensure the customer's question is answered in a timely and comprehensive manner.
  • Call customers to obtain information related to fluid samples as needed.
  • Complete online Caterpillar fluid analysis prerequisite courses as directed
  • Clean equipment and work areas as needed, including but not limited to computers, countertops, windows, floors, sinks, and glassware.
  • Fill and/or dump all fluids and waste oils when needed.
  • Assist the Lab Technician Interpreter with interpreting sample results as needed.
  • Notify lab team member(s) responsible for ordering inventory when lab supplies are running low.
  • Maintain punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work overtime as needed and within labor law guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and a minimum of one (1) year of work experience preferably in a heavy industrial environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess basic data entry skills using a computer.
