Job description

Under direction of the Operations and Clinical Managers, the HLA Supervisor oversees daily operation of the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics laboratory. Key responsibilities include but not limited to;
•Technical Oversight: Directs daily laboratory processes including HLA typing, crossmatching, antibody screening, and chimerism testing.
•Quality & Compliance: Ensures the lab meets all ASHI (American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics) and CLIA regulations, proficiency testing, quality assurance and CAP inspection readiness.
•Staff Management: Manages scheduling, competency assessments, performance evaluations, and ongoing staff training.
•Test Validation and Implementation: Leads and participates in the evaluation, validation, and implementation of new methodologies. Develops, reviews, and maintains SOPs and related documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and quality standards.
•Histotrac Upgrade and Maintenance: validates and implements HLA software upgrade and EPIC Beaker interface.
Preferred candidates with CHS certification, at least 5 to 8 years of HLA laboratory experience and progressive supervisory/management experience. Position is 100% on site.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintains effective workflow and operations. Acts as an expert resource within an area of specialty.

  • Drives Quality Improvement initiatives and seeks ways to improve performance and service.

  • Recommends and prepares Standard Operating Procedures for designated area and provides training in the area of expertise.

  • Oversees scheduling and payroll. Maintains timely and effective communication and feedback to managers and employees.

  • Performs and submits to Human Resources all performance assessment documentation on time so that employee morale is maintained at a high level.

  • Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews.

  • Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.

  • Direct Reports: 4-6; Indirect Reports: None.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science / Medical Technology or Biological Science required.

Preferred Education: None.

Required Work Experience: 5 or more year’s full time experience required.

License/Registration/Certification: ASCP certified generalist or categorical Technologist or equivalent accreditation required.

Other: Demonstrates autonomy, critical thinking skills and has skillset required to oversee shift operations.

Capability and capacity to lead multiple projects and assist with staffing needs under the direction of department leadership.

Experience and high proficiency with computers required. Web based application experience, Microsoft applications including excel experience required.

Written Communications: Ability to communicate complex information in English effectively in writing to all levels of staff, management and external customers across functional areas.

Oral Communications: Ability to verbally communicate complex concepts in English and address sensitive situations, resolve conflicts, negotiate, motivate and persuade others.

Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate broad and comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex and/or unprecedented situations across multiple functional areas.

Team Work: Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have implications for the management and operations of multiple areas of the organization.

Customer Service: Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner.
 

Physical Nature of the Job:
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.

Pay Range:

$100,000.00 USD - $135,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
