Manager – Laboratory Operations

Location: Cincinnati, OH
Schedule: Full-Time, Day Shift | Primarily 8:00 AM–5:00 PM with flexibility until 7:00 PM
Travel: Regional travel between Cincinnati-area sites with occasional travel to Dayton

Lighthouse Lab Services is partnering with an established healthcare organization to identify an experienced Manager of Laboratory Operations to oversee multiple locations throughout the Cincinnati area. These sites primarily support point-of-care testing, specimen processing, and phlebotomy services.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for a laboratory professional who enjoys developing teams while staying connected to day-to-day operations. The Manager will provide operational oversight across assigned locations, support staff performance and competency, maintain regulatory readiness, and help ensure efficient, high-quality laboratory services.

Position Overview

The Manager of Laboratory Operations is responsible for the daily leadership and operational oversight of laboratory staff across multiple sites. This individual will oversee staffing, workflow, quality, compliance, employee development, and operational performance while maintaining the technical and phlebotomy competency necessary to provide hands-on support when needed.

The ideal candidate brings a clinical laboratory background, prior leadership experience, and strong phlebotomy skills, along with the ability to effectively manage teams and operations across multiple locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide daily direction, supervision, and support to laboratory staff across assigned locations.
• Oversee operations supporting point-of-care testing, specimen processing, and phlebotomy services.
• Coordinate work schedules, staffing coverage, bench assignments, and workflow priorities.
• Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and employee development.
• Coach and mentor team members while providing ongoing performance feedback and addressing performance concerns when necessary.
• Manage timekeeping, attendance, PTO, and other staff scheduling responsibilities.
• Maintain competency in assigned laboratory disciplines and provide hands-on testing or operational coverage as needed.
• Maintain phlebotomy competency and assist with collections when necessary.
• Troubleshoot technical and operational issues and coordinate timely resolution.
• Support communication with physicians, healthcare providers, clients, and internal departments.
• Assist with departmental budget management, expenses, and staffing allocations.
• Support quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain ongoing readiness for regulatory inspections and accreditation surveys.
• Participate in root cause analyses and the development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
• Assist with the development, review, and maintenance of laboratory policies, procedures, and technical documentation.
• Ensure documentation and laboratory processes meet applicable regulatory and organizational requirements.
• Oversee and support staff competency assessments, training, and professional development.
• Participate in the training of new employees, existing team members, and medical laboratory science students.
• Promote compliance with laboratory safety, infection control, and occupational health requirements.
• Develop strong working relationships with staff, physicians, vendors, clients, and other internal and external partners.
• Travel between assigned Cincinnati-area locations, with occasional travel to Dayton.
• Provide schedule flexibility as needed to support meetings and employee interactions across shifts.

Education & Experience

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related laboratory field.
• MLT, MT, MLS, or equivalent laboratory certification through ASCP preferred.
• Minimum of 1–3 years of progressively responsible experience within a medical laboratory environment.
• Previous leadership, supervisory, lead, or management experience strongly preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience required.
• Experience with point-of-care testing and/or specimen processing is beneficial.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop laboratory staff.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to exercise sound independent judgment and effectively troubleshoot operational issues.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage responsibilities across multiple locations and meet established deadlines.
• Schedule flexibility to support laboratory operations and staff across assigned sites.

Compensation & Benefits

• $69,000-$100,000 (Depending on experience)
