Job description

Lab Specialist

Regional West Medical Center is seeking a detail-oriented Lab Specialist to join our laboratory team. In this role, you will support the efficient operation of the laboratory by providing clerical, specimen processing, and coordination assistance—ensuring accurate handling of patient information and timely delivery of lab services. This position plays a vital behind-the-scenes role in delivering safe, high-quality patient care.

Availability to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to grow their healthcare career in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

A Day in the Life of a Lab Specialist

Your day begins by reviewing orders, preparing your workstation, and ensuring you have the tools needed to support a smooth workflow. As specimens and requisitions arrive, you verify patient information, confirm accuracy, and ensure all documentation is complete—knowing precision is critical to patient care.

Throughout the day, you receive and process specimens delivered via pneumatic tube, couriers, or in-person drop-offs, carefully checking labeling and handling requirements. You enter and manage orders in the electronic health record, audit information for accuracy, and address any discrepancies to keep the lab running efficiently.

You serve as an important communication hub—answering phone calls, assisting providers and staff with lab requests, and distributing test results accurately and promptly. Whether coordinating add-on orders or directing inquiries to the right team member, you help ensure seamless patient care.

In addition to administrative and processing duties, you assist with internal logistics such as delivering specimens, distributing reports, and maintaining workflow between departments and clinical teams.

Collaboration is key. You work closely with lab staff, nurses, providers, and support teams—maintaining a professional, positive approach even in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

Each day may look different, but your attention to detail, organization, and commitment to quality help ensure patients receive timely and accurate results.
