Job description

As the Support Service Specialist, you will be asked to support both Pre-Analytical and Analytical areas of the laboratory to ensure seamless operation for quality patient care.
  • Greets patients and pleasantly introduces oneself and confirms identification utilizing the two LGH patient identifiers (name and date of birth).
  • Perform registration, test ordering and expedition of samples throughout the laboratory.
  • Maintain competence and ensure insurance eligibility is completed at every encounter.
  • Maintain standing orders/test orders from physician offices within the regulatory timeframe.
  • Educate patients with instructions for urinalysis collection, scheduling a cortrosyn stimulation test, glucose tolerance test, and semen analysis.
  • Oversee inventory management of laboratory supplies in-house and for outreach sites.
  • Process, package, and ship specimens to be sent to the reference laboratory.
  • Competent to work in the Microbiology lab as a specimen planter.
  • Keeps Laboratory Management informed of any unusual concerns, situations, or conditions relative to staff, patients, and physicians.

Required:
  • High School Graduate
  • Computer skills and medical terminology

Preferred:
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in a related science field
  • Experienced in a hospital or related setting.
