Summary:

Performs a variety of patient testing in multiple laboratory disciplines and in specialty laboratories, in support of clinical activities in the UNCHCS.

Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates advanced level technologist competencies in producing accurate laboratory test results which includes all levels of CLIA outlined testing and problem solving.
2. Maintains and investigates problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow.
3. Serves as a Senior or Lead Technologist in area of expertise. Provides technical direction to assigned personnel. Provides laboratory testing consultation to other members of the healthcare team.
4. Gathers data for quality purposes.
5. May assess testing personnel competency levels.
6. Monitors daily operation of laboratory section or work area.
7. Participates on teams or performs special projects/assignments including but not limited to inventory management, committee membership, assists with new test development and validations, linearity studies, etc.
8. Performs and reviews quality control and proficiency testing in the appropriate laboratories.
9. Reviews test results to ensure accuracy of report and timely correction of errors.
10. Serves as preceptor in teaching multiple types of learners and training of new employees.
11. Begins to gain knowledge of and assists with regulatory compliance endeavors.
12. Other duties as assigned.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:
If Assoc Degree in Clinical Lab Science, Medical Lab Technician, Chemical Science or Biological Science MLT (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) certification required.
If Bachelors Degree in Chemical or Biological Science ASCP categorical certification in specialty area required.
If Bachelors Degree in Clinical/Medical Lab Science MT/MLS (ASCP) or MT/MLS (AMT) certification required.
CHT/CHS(ACHI) is acceptable for Histocompatibility Laboratory.
Professional Experience Requirements:
If Assoc Degree in Clinical Lab Science, Medical Lab Technician, Chemical Science or Biological Science with MLT (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) four (4) years of experience required.
If Bachelors Degree in Chemical or Biological Science with ASCP categorical certification in specialty area three (3) years of experience required.
If Bachelors Degree in Clinical/Medical Lab Science with MT/MLS (ASCP) or MT/MLS (AMT) certification two (2) years of experience required.
