Canyon Vista Medical Center is located in the beautiful high desert of southeastern Arizona, committed to serve residents in Sierra Vista, Ft. Huachuca, Cochise County - a population of more than 131,000 people, and our surrounding communities. We're comfortably nestled in the San Pedro River Valley, 75 miles southeast of Tucson. Canyon Vista Medical Center was founded in 1963 as Western Baptist Osteopathic Hospital on what was then the eastern edge of Sierra Vista. Growth and advancing technology dictated building our new 177,000 square foot hospital at 5700 E Hwy 90 completed in 2015.

How you'll contribute 

Clinical Lab Scientist who excels in this role:

  • Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing.
  • Operates laboratory equipment in a high-quality, effective manner.
  • Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and reports/documents results per organizational standards.
  • Performs automated tests using computerized instruments & automated equipment.
  • Runs tests and analyzes the results to be reported to the patient, physician or registered nurse.
  • Performs Quality Assurance work to ensure accuracy of equipment.
  • Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.
  • Performs and determines accuracy of technical lab procedures.
  • Maintains records of procedures performed, the patient results and the quality control required for all procedures performed.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of all quality control tests completed.
  • Assures that all out-of-control procedures are followed and that there is documentation of remedial actions taken.
  • Performs all preventive maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, as assigned.
  • Reads and understands all procedure manuals on an annual basis.
  • Collects biological specimens.
  • Prepares and forwards biological specimens to appropriate reference laboratory according to departmental procedures.
  • Provides instruction to students/new employees with regard to procedures and departmental policies.
  • Checks available supplies and reports deficiencies to supervisor in a timely manner so as to avoid shortages.
  • Review procedure manual and sign off on procedures.
  • Write and update procedures.
  • Review quality control results and document as such.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and to the overall team approach to the laboratory.
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.
  • Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to the continuous improvement and participate other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Computer and/or keyboarding skills required.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
