Job description

Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technician
Birmingham, AL
PCR-Dx of Alabama is a COLA accredited clinical diagnostics laboratory located in Birmingham, Alabama. We perform toxicology screening and confirmation using state of the art techniques such as LC-MS/MS and Automated Immunoassay. Our lab also specializes in pharmacogenetic testing to analyze a person's genes to help healthcare providers find the best medication and dosage.
We are growing and looking for either a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician to join our growing team.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Ensures specimens received by the laboratory are acceptable for testing according to the lab's criteria.
  • Changes or prepares reagents, controls as necessary and records such in log.
  • Labels, accessions and distributes specimens so that integrity of patient identification is maintained throughout processing.
  • Operates both primary and secondary instrumentation proficiently. Operates, calibrates, conducts performance checks and maintains any clinical laboratory instrument or equipment after orientation.
  • Troubleshoots basic instrument malfunctions and documents in the appropriate action log. Determines when an instrument's service representative should be contacted for assistance.
  • Manages and prepares samples for testing per Lab protocol
  • Assists with specialized functions, such as, but not limited to, quality assurance, quality control, QC review, statistical evaluations and clinical surveys (CLIA/ COLA/CAP)
  • Helps document and deliver laboratory results and patient information according to the Lab's HIPAA-compliance policies
  • Other duties as assigned (Inventory, temperature monitoring, etc.)
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, OR Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a NAACLS-accredited program recognized by the ASCP Board as qualifying for the MLT required
  • MT/CLS/MLS certification (ASCP or equivalent)
  • 2 years of clinical laboratory experience performing moderate and high complexity testing preferred
