Lab Safety Manager Jobs in Ohio (NOW HIRING)

As Lab Manager for RRL's Feed and Forage Lab in Wooster, you will oversee the day-to-day operation of the lab, from sample intake through final reporting. You'll supervise lab staff, manage testing workflow and turnaround times, and make sure results going out to clients meet RRL's standards for accuracy and consistency. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll be on the bench when needed, in front of instruments and methods daily, while also managing people, schedules, and the lab's day-to-day priorities. You'll work closely with RRL's client support and sales teams to keep clients informed and with corporate lab leadership on standards, staffing, and equipment.

Oversee daily operations of the Wooster feed and forage lab, including staff scheduling, workflow assignment, and workload balancing to meet turnaround-time commitments.

Supervise, train, and support lab technicians, including onboarding new hires and building cross-training so the lab can flex around volume swings and absences.

Set and monitor performance expectations for lab staff and provide regular feedback and coaching.

Oversee wet chemistry and NIR testing of feed and forage samples.

Ensure lab staff follow established SOPs and testing protocols consistently across shifts and technicians.

Monitor sample volume and flow through the lab, and flag capacity or bottleneck issues before they affect turnaround time.

Maintain the lab's QA/QC program, including check samples, instrument calibration schedules, and method verification.

Investigate and resolve testing discrepancies, out-of-range results, or client-reported data questions in partnership with corporate lab leadership.

Ensure samples are logged into RRL's Feeds system accurately and promptly, and that results are reviewed before they're released to clients.

Track turnaround times and lab throughput and report on trends to lab and company leadership.

Maintain accurate records of instrument maintenance, calibration, and QC data.

Oversee maintenance and calibration of lab instruments (including NIR analyzers) and coordinate service or repairs as needed.

Maintain lab safety standards and compliance with OSHA and chemical hygiene requirements, including staff safety training.

Manage inventory of reagents, consumables, and lab supplies, and place orders to avoid disruptions to testing.

Partner with RRL's client support and sales teams to keep them informed of turnaround times, sample issues, and capacity, so they can set accurate client expectations.

Work with corporate lab leadership on staffing needs, equipment investment, and alignment with RRL's broader lab standards and procedures.

Learn RRL's testing methods, SOPs, and the Feeds system well enough to review and troubleshoot day-to-day lab workflow.

Meet with each lab team member individually to understand current workload, pain points, and training needs.

Take ownership of staff scheduling and workflow assignment for the Wooster lab.

Identify and begin addressing any backlog, bottleneck, or turnaround-time issues.

Confirm the lab's QA/QC calendar (check samples, calibration, proficiency testing) is current and being followed.

Establish a regular cadence of reporting to corporate lab leadership on throughput, turnaround time, and quality metrics.

Complete a full review of lab safety practices and close any outstanding gaps.

Build a working relationship with the client support and sales teams serving the Wooster lab's client base.

Review turnaround-time and quality trends for the year, and set improvement goals with corporate lab leadership.

Review staffing levels and cross-training coverage against sample volume trends.

Set personal development goals for the year ahead.

Demonstrate a positive, solution-oriented attitude with lab staff, clients, and colleagues across RRL.

Treat clients and teammates with professionalism and respect.
